This is an excellent opportunity to join Suffolk County Council's Public Health and Communities directorate as a Senior Epidemiologist, where you will lead a small team of skilled Analysts in delivering comprehensive epidemiological and analytical support across the directorate.

Your role and responsibilities  

As a Senior Epidemiologist, you will be at the forefront of evolving our ongoing analytics as part of data-led epidemiological work which includes population health management, the response to infectious diseases, and wider public health analysis including healthcare and social care related topics. 

You will:

Use your technical skills and expertise (which are likely to include advanced knowledge of R, MS Power BI and SQL or similar) to evolve our existing BI products and develop new ones Provide data-driven modelling scenarios, and be able to build reports to highlight key areas of health inequalities, including in access, processes, and outcomes Line manage a small team of Public Health and Communities Analysts to deliver epidemiological and analytical support across the directorate, ensuring appropriate analytical methods are applied and quality assuring outputs Play a leading role in the analytical development of our work, which includes population health management, the response to infectious diseases, and wider public health and social care analysis, to inform service development and delivery.

You will need  

A Masters level (or higher) qualification in epidemiology, health data science, public health or related discipline, or equivalent experience.  Significant epidemiology or analytical skills and experience, ideally in a Local Authority or healthcare setting, or with UK Health Security Agency.  Knowledge of epidemiological/statistical measures, analysis and methods, including the ability to calculate and interpret confidence intervals, P values and other tests of statistical significance as well as an understanding of comparative analytical techniques. Knowledge of population health management principles, products and programmes, and how they can be utilised to reduce inequalities and improve outcomes. The ability to create, manage and manipulate large data sets, including pulling together data from multiple sources to create reporting which supports new services across the health and care system.  The ability to communicate accurate conclusions drawn from, and implications of results of, statistical/performance/public health analyses to a wide range of internal and external staff, guiding them on a recommended course of action.

The Knowledge, Intelligence and Evidence team is based within the wider Public Health and Communities team. The team are responsible for providing high quality, evidence-based insight that drives decision making. As a Senior Epidemiologist within the team, you will support a wide variety of programmes focused on improving health and wellbeing, and reducing inequalities across our community.
