Job description

The job role will involve delivering data outputs which have been highly quality controlled to use for national assessments on monitoring and evaluating the UKs ecological state for eutrophication and biodiversity (pelagic habitats) to Defra/OSPAR.�

This is a marine environment focused position in a group responsible for the collection of marine monitoring data. As well as the primary data work, there are likely to be some opportunities for data collection, instrument calibration and equipment maintenance pre- and post-fieldwork and sea-going duties.��

In addition, Cefas reserves the right to ask staff to take on additional duties and responsibilities which are commensurate with their grade. Team Leaders and management will have a discussion with staff to explain the changes that are to be made. A new job description will be issued if required.�

Person specification

The following are essential criteria required for this role and you must be able to demonstrate your skills and experience in the following areas:�

Demonstrable background or experience in data analysis, with working knowledge of the marine field, performing time-series analysis and kriging.�Proven background in data quality control and statistical analysis.

Competent coding and problem-solving skills to join the Marine Observations Systems team;Experience in working with relevant coding software and data quality assurance procedures;The ability to write functions will be essential, with working knowledge and experience in R, Python or Matlab;Demonstrable experience working with large data sets collected from different modes of data collection, ( ship-based sampling, satellite data, automated buoys, models) and dealing with the calibration of many aspects of the marine data collected.
