The Public Safety Group�s role is to keep the public safe by cutting crime, disrupting the highest harm criminals, protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that our police, fire, and rescue services are as efficient and effective as they can be in delivering front line public services. We work with our partners in other government departments, local government, and the voluntary sector to develop and implement policy, provide funding, and deliver legislation.

Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP) is a pan-government, cross departmental, programme based within the Home Office. The programme has representation from the Emergency Services at both operational and departmental levels and has close working involvement from the suppliers of The Emergency Services Network (ESN) technology. This is an exciting programme, delivering cutting edge technology which will directly impact people�s lives.

Job description

We are looking for a communications professional to work on the programme which has been set up to deliver ESN.�

Core to delivering our communications strategy is having creative and impactful content for use across a range of channels, and to support our leadership team and emergency services� leaders in their engagement and communication.

Our communications team is looking for someone who can create great content, with good writing skills. They will have the ability to take the complex and technical and make it easy to understand across a variety of platforms for our core audiences.�

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to grasp the needs and preferences of audiences, plan content and structure opportunities for milestones; whilst utilising a range of available channels and formats.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a good understanding of communications within a government department. They will be confident, flexible, and able to use their initiative to provide communications support and guidance on this busy programme. They will have a creative mindset with a desire to learn new skills.

Key responsibilities are to:

Source and create engaging content using a range of tools and by developing strong stakeholder relationships.Apply strong writing skills to edit complex information into digital and offline content that is concise, accurate, relevant, and suitable for a non-specialist audience.�Support with the creation of engaging, multimedia content, including video, infographics, and visual imagery for use across a range of platforms.Develop and produce creative video content, including scripting, storyboarding, capturing, and editing content.Use evaluation and analysis tools to measure the effectiveness of work carried out.

Occasional travel across Great Britain will be necessary to capture content to help share ESN progress.

The current London building location for this role is Clive House (SW1H Zone 1). However, the office will be relocating to Stratford (Zone 2/3) with expected relocation by the end of 2024.

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. However,��are available.

Person specification

Essential criteria:

Strong planning and organisational skills to meet specific deadlines, with the ability to manage competing priorities and changing deadlines.�The ability to work flexibly with team members to deliver shared goals to tight deadlines.Have demonstrable experience of working in a communications role in the emergency services, local or central government or operational environments.Strong written and oral communications skills.Demonstrable development of creative capabilities and willingness to learn new skills.

Desirable criteria:

Experience of using creative tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.

Licences

Due to the nature of the work and/or the geographical area, driving is a key requirement for this� role. Applicants must have a full valid UK manual/automatic driving licence.
