What does a Substance Misuse Worker do at Hillingdon?

We are offering a part time position working 18 hours per week working until March 2025 within the Hillingdon Youth Offer. Our offer runs throughout the year and across the whole of the borough. Work patterns may include daytime, afternoon shifts, evening shifts, weekend shifts, and occasional residential work. The salary advertised will be pro-rated. The Hillingdon Youth Offer works with children and young people to deliver high quality, consistent youth work through Targeted, Locality based, Detached, Outreach and Accredited programmes across the borough in collaboration with the statutory, community and voluntary sector. Our work is responsive to need, supports aspiration and is offered in safe spaces and places. Our work delivers opportunities that promote personal and social development, encourage children and young people to make informed choices and respect and value difference.

This post will be within the Substance Use and Misuse Programmes (SORTED team) which offers a range of education, prevention and therapeutic intervention to children and young people in Hillingdon, where there is a concern in relation to substance misuse and addiction

About you

The successful candidate will be committed to taking a positive, holistic and empowering approach to service delivery. We are looking for individuals with demonstrable experience and competence in developing work with children and young people within formal or informal education or community settings. We are seeking to recruit individuals with an excellent understanding of issues that children and young people face today and experience of leading a team. You will have a creative and dynamic approach and be able to engage with hard to reach and other vulnerable groups. There is no specific qualification required for this role, and training will be part of the induction. A willingness to learn and a commitment to supporting children and young people is a must.

As a Programme Delivery Worker, you'll work within a small team of specialist practitioners delivering targeted services and have the opportunity to provide 1-1 and/or group therapeutic support for Young People affected by their substance misuse The role will focus specifically on young people who are LAC and/or NEET (11 -18 years old) and who are at risk of negative substance misuse outcomes, and who require additional support to overcome challenges to their personal, educational, health and social progression

The ideal candidate will:
-Have relevant qualifications in either recognised counselling, CBT or another therapeutic diploma including coaching, social and nursing qualifications
• Have experience and/or knowledge of supporting individuals with alcohol and/or substance misuse in 1-1 and/or group setting
• Be confident to plan and deliver group and one-to-one interventions and services that are responsive to need.
• Be confident and motivated
• Be passionate about working with children and young people
• Have a 'Can do' attitude •
• Be approachable and able to engage with a diverse client population
• Be proactive and able to work both independently and as part of a team
• Be respectful and polite • Be compassionate and understanding

• Be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of children, young people, partners and stakeholders
