Laboratory Technician

ABOUT YOU

As the lab technician, you will be lab based, however there will be elements of client interactions required. The role includes but is not limited to; Chemical and analytical testing, supporting in the laboratory on outsourcing projects, comprehension use of database systems, administrative procedures, and has a high commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement.

Required skills and experience:

• The role would ideally suit candidates with a chemistry background and with hands-on practical skills.
• Experience with handling chemicals and/or workshop environments would be advantageous.
• Preferably degree qualified in a Science or Engineering based subject (Chemistry 'A' level as a minimum).
• Computer literate and familiar with MS Office applications.
• Flexible approach and ability to work across groups in a cooperative manner and maintain desired standard of work.
• Excellent team player

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

You will manage the preparation, testing, reporting and outgoing of samples for sorting, filing and management of both electronic and hard copy documents. In addition, you will engage in a wide range of laboratory and administrative activities to ensure efficient and effective technical support is provided.

Key activities:

• Carry out testing programs for the assessment of process chemicals.
• Sample process/plating tanks.
• Prepare test solutions using general chemical laboratory techniques such as the use of micropipettes, balances, dilution methods and calculation of solution concentrations.
• Materials testing (including XRF and fatigue).
• Handle chemicals required during testing in accordance with COSHH, and health and safety risk assessments.
• Maintain accurate records of observations and calculations.
• Preparation, maintenance, and operation of a variety of laboratory equipment.
• On the job training will be provided.
