Job Description

As a Social Care Worker (Homelessness) based in HMP Barlinnie you will manage a busy and varied caseload, work as part of a team, and report to the Team Leader.

The primary focus of this role is to minimise the risk of people becoming homeless, through the provision of good quality housing option assessments, information and assistance. Working with colleagues across the Glasgow City Health & Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP), Scottish Prison Service (SPS), voluntary and private sector partner agencies you will work to achieve the aims of the Council’s Rapid Rehousing and Transition Plan. Where homelessness cannot be prevented, the Social Care Worker will take responsibility for the provision of statutory homelessness assessments in line with the Housing (Scotland) Act as amended, secure temporary accommodation, develop person centred care and support plans, provide risk assessments and put in place appropriate support services, and prioritise the provision of settled accommodation where required for people on release from prison.

The successful applicant should have experience in managing a demanding caseload and completing care and support assessments, enthusiastic, highly motivated, willing to learn within a changing environment, with strong communication skills and able to demonstrate an excellent approach to customer service gained through experience of working with the general public.

It is desirable for you to have SVQ level 3 in Social Care/ HNC or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards the qualification.

Your normal hours of work will be 35 hours per week - to be worked between 8:45am to 4:45pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.45am to 3.55pm on Friday . This includes a daily unpaid lunch break of 50 minutes. The working week bandwidth will be between 8.00 and 20.00, Monday to Friday. You are required to be available to work your contracted hours within the service requirements, as directed and agreed with your line manager. 

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above position will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.
