The Army Aviation Centre (AACen) has a vacancy within it's Headquarters for a Safety, Health and Environment Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of the team at Middle Wallop, where the Army trains all its pilots and groundcrew As well as teaching over 900 students per year we have around 350 Military and Civil Service personnel and over 400 contractors.

As an MOD Civil Servant you will work alongside other civilians and military personnel and be part of the crew that keeps the British Army in the air.

Job description

Assist the Safety Health and Environmental Advisor (SHEA) in the promotion of a safe and healthy workplace through good advice, effective planning and the implementation of the Station SHEA & sustainable development (SD) management systems.

Assist the Station Security Officer (SSO) to ensure the safety and security of the infrastructure and the site.

Deputise for the SHEA during periods of absence or as required.

Assist in the administration, preparation and conduct of SHE &SD audits of the site.

Reporting and recording of accidents, incidents and near misses from service personnel, MOD civilians and contractors on site.

Manage and maintain records of energy use and waste management and promoting good practice.

Communication of internal and external safety notices/alerts across the site.

Produce and review documents including: policies, procedures, risk assessments, security and business continuity plans.

Assist in collecting of information and planning of Health and Safety training courses for Service Personnel and MOD Civil Servants.

To carry out training to become the AACen HQ Building Custodian.

To enrol and attend any Health and Safety training courses that will assist in the promotion of a safe place of work.

Develop and maintain registers of Building Custodians (BCs), Emergency Fire Evacuation Drills and Dog Registration.

Promote and organise the training of BCs and carry out inspections of workplace, Single Living Accommodation and Messes.

Assist event organisers with documentation ie: Risk Assessments and Safety Certificates.

To assist in preparation for Station level SHE committees, to take minutes and prepare Records of Decisions.

Any other reasonable duties that are within the capabilities of the applicant as directed by the line management.
