Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for us. We're happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Operations with their nuclear fleet in the UK.

Over the last 46 years, Hinkley Point B has generated 311 TWh of low carbon and is now entering an exciting new phase in its life - defueling and decommissioning. This involves the safe removal of all spent fuel from the reactor core, the cooling ponds and stores whilst looking ahead and preparing for deconstruction. At a time of nuclear resurgence working for our company at Hinkley Point B offers a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within an operational defueling environment whilst also looking ahead to future potential opportunities in nuclear new build or decommissioning and deconstruction.

This is a key role within our Project Management Resource team which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced project management professionals and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your project management, business development and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects.

The role will see you working as part of a large client-led team at Hinkley Point B Power Station, with occasional business travel to other UK sites/stations. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible, however the role will predominantly be based at the Power Station. Key responsibilities will be:
  • Managing multi-discipline projects throughout the full project lifecycle (gated process)
  • Responsible for setting the project execution strategy in agreement with the client Project Portfolio Manager
  • Managing a cross-functional integrated project team
  • Overseeing the approved budget, scope, change control, risk and opportunities across all designated projects
  • Monitoring and managing schedule progress and providing key stakeholders with regular updates
  • Preparation and presentation of monthly progress reports for governance review
  • Driving the delivery of the projects to ensure safe delivery, on time, and meeting business and technical quality requirements
  • Accountability to the client Project Portfolio Manager for successful delivery of all aspects of your assigned projects

Here's what you'll need:
  • Degree educated, ideally in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field
  • APM PMQ or equivalent and proficient in the use of project management tools
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects throughout the full project lifecycle, ideally across a range of complex multi-discipline projects and environments, and management of an integrated project team
  • A good understanding and knowledge of engineering project management, design, procurement, safety case, construction and installation/commissioning management
  • Previous experience of estimating, cost control, planning and commercial awareness including the preparation of business cases and sanction/ funding papers
  • Strong communication, organisational and team-building skills
  • Knowledge and experience of delivering construction projects under CDM
  • Ideally experience in managing and delivering electrical power systems design and installation projects; for example prior experience in working with the national grid and/or electrical supply and distribution systems
  • A background of working at Power Stations and Nuclear Licensed Sites is preferred but not essential and everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture
