Aylesbury, United Kingdom Buckinghamshire Council Full time

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Are you passionate about supporting young people to have their voice heard?

Do you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to support and develop young people, in addition to confidently managing relationships with senior colleagues and partner organisations?

Buckinghamshire Council are looking for a Youth Participation Worker to develop and deliver our Youth Voice Bucks projects for young people, this includes supporting children looked after (CLA), care leavers and young people with SEND.

Contract: This is a fixed term/secondment position until 31st December 2024.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

Buckinghamshire is an ambitious, rapidly growing county, and our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ranks as one of the top rural areas to live in the UK and yet it is incredibly well connected– only an hour from London on the train. The county has a rich history and heritage and is the birthplace of the international Paralympic movement.

We are looking for motivated, ambitious and inspiring people to join us on our journey. You will be entitled to a range of different benefits to make sure you are happy both at work and at home.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our ‘Youth Voice Bucks’ programme at Buckinghamshire Council. Following the launch of our first Youth Participation Strategy last year, the Council has a clear commitment to listening, acting and responding to the voice of young people.

The participation of young people with SEND and those who are CLA or leaving care is a priority for Children’s Services.

You will work directly with young people to engage them in youth voice projects that impact on the design, delivery and evaluation of services. You will create opportunities for their personal and social development, using creative and innovative approaches to meet the needs of a range of young people. You will develop and build relationships with internal and external partners to maximise involvement and impact, working with a wide range of young people with differing needs.

Mobile:

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.

About you

You will have experience in youth work or a related role, working directly with young people to support their social and emotional development, and have their voice heard.

You will have experience of partnership working, including managing relationships and communicating professionally with internal and external colleagues including at a senior level. You will also be confident managing competing priorities and prioritising a busy workload.

You will be Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy in line with Buckinghamshire Council’s core values.

Please see job summary attached for full details of the role.
