Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Sands School is a small independent secondary day school located in the town of Ashburton in the southern edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. We offer genuinely child-centred teaching in small classes within a democratic ethos that fosters trust, mutual respect and self-directed learning.

We are seeking an ICT Teacher to join Sands School from September 2024. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the department at Sands School. You will be responsible for planning and delivering the ICT curriculum providing core IT literacy skills to Key Stage 3 classes and GCSE Computer Science in the upper school. As a champion of technology, you will further develop the use of ICT in the school by supporting other teachers to use technology in exciting ways in their subjects, offering specialist short courses and supporting the interests of students with a passion for technology. You will have a large degree of freedom to develop your own vision for the department but, as a democratic school, you will need to work closely with the students and other teachers to ensure you are meeting the needs of the school. You will also have a role supporting and advising the Administration team in technology procurement and implementation.

The successful candidate will:
• Be educated to degree level in Computer Science or a related field;
• Have experience of delivering high quality ICT teaching at secondary level;
• Be well organised, have excellent communication and teamwork skills and a creative approach to teaching and curriculum planning;
• Have a passion for technology and working with young people;
• Be a strong advocate for student voice.

As well as being a responsible adult in the school, you will be a part of the school community and will be expected to engage with and support all our students, not just those taking your subjects, and to participate in the democratic running of the school through the weekly school meetings.

Sands School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced disclosure (with barred list checks) from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Further details can be found at .
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and Exceptions Order 1975. Applicants will be required to declare spent and unspent convictions and cautions that are not ‘protected’.
All shortlisted applicants will be subject to an online search.
