This is an exciting opportunity in our Digital & Technology team. We are looking for an enthusiastic Principle Infrastructure Engineer with great technical leadership, technical skills and a drive to improve.

You will be responsible for feeding into the strategy of the Companies House platform team approach, designing and delivering the infrastructure, tooling and standards to support a continuous delivery approach within Companies House. You will be user and service focused ensuring that value is delivered through improvement and automation of platform services.

Job description

The position is a technical role within the infrastructure profession and responsible for technical leadership and expertise, system design, standards creation, maintenance and enforcement. Commercial and technical guidance to the wider platform team. The platform teams are responsible for the automation, provisioning and delivery of Companies House platforms and environments as well as the cloud estate. The platform team also provides DevOps support to scrum teams and projects. The role will balance leading on delivery at pace whilst maintaining a service availability focus.

You will be responsible for leading, directing and contributing to the strategy of the Companies House platform team approach, delivering the infrastructure and tooling to support a continuous delivery approach within Companies House. You will be user and service focused ensuring that value is delivered through improvement and automation of platform services.

In addition, you will:

Work closely with the Enterprise Infrastructure Engineer and Platform architect to ensure systems are designed to agreed standards and specifications Lead and advise technically to the wider platform team on approaches to workstreams and standards creation and maintenanceHorizon scan for any new technology or toolsets to improve on current processes. Also look for potential future issuesLearn new skills and develop your career working on diverse projects with a focus on continuous improvement.Work closely with Digital and Data colleagues of all disciplines to design, implement and improve a resilient platform architecture which can be scaled to accommodate service demand, ensuring appropriate logging, monitoring and alerting are in place.

The nature of this post may occasionally require you to do overtime during the week and at weekends.

We are looking for someone with experience in:

Infrastructure build and release within a microservices architecture.Supporting Infrastructure on cloud data platforms.Automation of manual processes, including code deployment and environment provisioning.Rapid delivery of user centric services whilst focussing on performance, reporting and alerting.Technical guidance of technical teams and collaborative working using an inclusive approach to delivery of objectives.Commercial or contract experience with technology desirable but not essential.

Experience of Cloud technologies, (preferably AWS) automation technologies and Unix/Linux are essentialExperience of some the following; Terraform, Concourse, Ansible, MongoDB. Experience in similar technologies will be considered.

Alongside your salary of �42,991, Companies House contributes �12,454 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

Please note that the minimum salary does not reflect the 2023/24 pay deal and we are therefore expecting this to increase in the near future.
