London, United Kingdom Sainsbury's Full time
Job Description
We'd all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That's waiting for you at Sainsbury's. Here, everything in our stores starts out in Food Commercial. Whether it's the product, proposition, packaging or price, or the fact that something tastes great, our team is responsible for all food items available in store, digitally and on demand. You'll discover it's incredibly fast-paced. People here are in it together and not afraid to take risks. They're enthusiastic too, and their amazing leadership team is right behind them. The knowledge and experience you gain here could set you up for career moves, anywhere else in the business. So, if you're passionate about food and just as hungry to learn, you'll fit in perfectly.

Why join us
Joining our team as a Ranging and Merchandising Analyst at Sainsbury's presents an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in our Food Commercial division. As part of our dedicated Ranging & Merchandising function, you'll have the chance to leverage your analytical expertise and commercial mindset to identify and prioritise opportunities that optimise our ranging and merchandising strategies. Working closely with cross-functional teams, both internal and external, you will contribute to the development and delivery of innovative solutions that align with customer needs and drive commercial success. With a strong emphasis on data-driven decision-making, collaboration, and continuous improvement, this role offers a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment where you can develop professionally and make a tangible difference to our business and customers.

What you'll do
As a Ranging and Merchandising Analyst in the Food Commercial division, you will play a crucial role in identifying and prioritising opportunities in Ranging & Merchandising. Your primary responsibility will be to balance the needs of categories with business-wide commercial programmes, such as FROS and Food E2E, ensuring that any actions taken have positive impacts on suppliers, logistics, retail, and customers. Utilising your strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, you will use data and insights to identify opportunities and quantify them based on strategic alignment, customer benefit, and commercial impact. Collaborating closely with category teams, divisional leaders, and external partners, you will lead the development and delivery of solutions that optimise Ranging & Merchandising across all channels and formats. Additionally, you will evaluate the performance of initiatives, maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, and keep up to date with market trends and competitor activity to inform decision-making. Your role will contribute to the wider Ranging & Merchandising function, working closely with other team members to ensure all opportunities are considered, prioritised, and delivered effectively.

Who you are
As a Ranging and Merchandising Analyst, you are a highly analytical and commercially-minded professional with a solid understanding of Fresh / Grocery categories, products, and customer needs. With your expertise in data analysis and insights, you excel in identifying and quantifying opportunities in Ranging & Merchandising, prioritising them based on strategic alignment and commercial impact. Your excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication ability allow you to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners, driving the development and delivery of optimised solutions. With your proactive and flexible approach, coupled with a drive for continuous improvement and a creative mindset, you play a pivotal role in informing and challenging Ranging & Merchandising decisions, ultimately contributing to the success of the business and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

What you need to know & show
  • A solid understanding of Fresh / Grocery categories, products, and customer needs
  • A strong analytical and commercial mindset, with the ability to analyse data and insights to identify opportunities and measure performance
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling way
  • A high level of proficiency in Excel and other analytical tools. JDA experience highly desirable
  • Solid experience in Ranging & Merchandising, or a related field, preferably in a retail or FMCG environment
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A curiosity and willingness to learn and develop.
  • A drive for results and continuous improvement

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer so you'll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there's always the chance to try something new - whether that's as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we'll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 20% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy up to an additional week's holiday, and we provide private healthcare. And if you ever need it there is also an Employee Assistance Programme.
