The Solar & Battery Storage Technician is a field-based role performing operations and maintenance tasks on utility-scale battery storage plants and ground mounted solar PV plants. You will ensure the multiple sites achieve outstanding levels of safety, quality and performance at a cost that meets operational budget, as part of an industry-leading team of renewable energy specialists.
As an O&M Electrician you will perform electrical and mechanical works as required to ensure an effective and efficient electrical installation and operations. On-site work in all electrical areas, to ensure compliance with electrical standards and the best possible performance of the solar or battery asset. Contributing to a safe workplace through the development, improvement and review of safe systems of work (SSoW). Recording and reporting of all works in line with systems of work.
A company vehicle, smart phone and laptop/tablet will be provided. RWE provides a comprehensive package of benefits including contributory pension, private health insurance and investment in role specific training. You will have work towards Authorised Person (AP) and Senior Authorised Person (SAP) working under the RWE Operational Safety Rules.
RWE provide in-house training programme and external recognised courses. Technicians will be required to develop with training and experience to advanced industry recognised LV/HV Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP). About the role
Reporting to the Solar & Storage O&M Site Manager, you will:
- Follow and manage health and safety requirements and help to maintain and improve safety standards across the sites
- Undertake planned inspection and maintenance according to legal, technical, manufacturer and contractual requirements
- Inspect, test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV & battery storage electrical and mechanical equipment
- Undertake AC and DC system testing, troubleshooting and fault-finding
- Perform reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and resolution promptly
- Troubleshoot and repair on sensors and communication equipment including, SCADA, RS485, Ethernet and fibre optic networks.
- Configure computer-based devices and components, including firmware updates
- Keep accurate maintenance records and compile reports
- Keep in close communication with the O&M office and team functions
- Travel between the sites and offices
- Occasionally work away from home for training courses and travel to other sites for up to 1 week at a time using the RWE accommodation and subsistence allowances
- Ensure landscape management as outlined in the Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan (HMMP) in order to maintain the enhanced and created habitats for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
- Occasionally assist with ground maintenance, cleaning or mechanical work
- Induct and manage sub-contractors, ensure their safe working and undertake quality checks on their work
- Other tasks determined by the role
Job Requirements and experience
- Full UK driving licence
- First aid qualifications
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS, CSCS)
- Understanding of Risk Assessments and Method Statements
- Working with equipment vendors to support diagnosis of faults
- Experience working remotely
- Solar PV installation and O&M experience
- Battery storage installation and O&M experience is desirable
Advantageous, but not essential
- Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology
- Good knowledge and understanding of HVAC, fire protection, security systems is desirable
- Good knowledge and understanding of battery storage technology, although training can be given in this area
- Principles of High Voltage operations desirable
