East Lothian Council seeks to appoint a caring, committed and creative teacher of Support for Learning (Literacy) at Rosehill High School, on the Wallyford Learning Campus. Our school opened in August 2023 and is Scotland’s newest secondary school. From August 2024 we will have a roll of around 460 young people in S1-S4, and are excited to start our first year of our senior phase.

Our campus is far more than a school, consisting of community sports and leisure facilities, the public library, adult health and social care, and an area run through our partnership with Edinburgh College. All of our learning spaces are digitally enabled and include specialist areas such as our performing arts facilities, hospitality kitchens and science super lab. Our school also includes 4 classes in our severe and complex needs provision, the Brae. Our classroom spaces are all designed to maximise natural light and our staff consistently comment positively on the sense of collaboration that the building offers.

This role is for a member of staff based in our mainstream provision, working within the Languages and Literacy team. As we seek to meet pupil needs in a rapidly expanding school, we are looking for a candidate who is committed to supporting the literacy development of our young people We would particularly welcome applications from those with English or Primary teaching qualifications, but are happy to consider those from other backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to improving literacy in education. The preferred days of work are Thursday/Friday but these can be negotiable.

Job Details

Teaching relevant subject through S1-S6.

Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following categories-

Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
Developing the school curriculum
Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school
