Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Supervision & Support Service (South)

MORE THAN JUST A JOB, WE OFFER AN OPPORTUNITY TO GROW

Secondment 6 months

INTERNAL ONLY (DCC Employees Only)

Bring your skills and passion to our team and join us as an Advanced Social Worker in our Fostering Supervision and Support Service. This is a great opportunity to grow your social work career with an ambitious authority at a time of exciting change. We’ve embedded our restorative practice approach across our teams and have invested in training our all practitioners and managers to build and maintain positive relationships with our children, young people and carers.

About the role
Working closely with your Team Manager, you will provide professional leadership and supervision to colleagues within your team, supporting your manager with the day-to-day operations of your team and contributing to an effective and efficient service to children and families.

This is a hands-on role, where you have a smaller but more complex caseload, working with children and young people with a complexity of needs (including undertaking in-depth assessments) and where, through supervision and mentoring, you will share your knowledge and experience with colleagues and students to continually improve practice standards within your team.

You will champion high standards of professional social work practice, by encouraging and supporting opportunities for reflection and learning and delivering on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to unqualified/alternatively qualified staff, students, and less experienced social workers.

One of our Advanced Social Workers has progressed to Team Manager says;
'The role of an Advanced Social Worker is extremely rewarding.

I was able to continue doing what I love, working with families and continuing to support children in Devon whilst taking on more responsibility within in the wider context of the organisation.

The new challenge of being able to mentor, develop and support others particularly about complex safeguarding and child protection cases combined with keeping up to date with the most recent research allowed me to further grow my professional judgment and decision-making skills.

In addition to this I gained a real understanding of the importance of a strategic role within a team. From a career progression perspective, it also gave me a great foundation in management and leadership, and I have now progressed to a Team Manager position.

I could have never dreamt of having such a fantastic career pathway and whilst my ambition right now is to be as good a Team Manager as I can be, it’s amazing to know that I can continue to grow in my dream career’.

Kasia M.
