DWP Digital is the digital part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). We build and maintain digital services that enable millions of people to access the help, advice and financial support they need.

Job description

Our teams and our Product Managers work on products that impact some of the most vulnerable people in society. We�re looking for you to be as motivated by that unique purpose as we are.

We have two roles, the first being within Health and Disability, who are responsible for a number of existing services which support some of the most vulnerable users in society to receive the financial support they need as a result of their health condition or disability. We are seeking to transform the way some of our most vulnerable users get the support they need.

Working alongside policy, strategy, service delivery and cross-government digital areas, we are designing the health and disability services of the future looking to how we can make improvements and release value early and regularly while we aim towards a future vision of joined up services which meet user needs and align with departmental strategy. Our second role will join the Transformation of Carers Allowance and Attendance Allowance team that supports DWP's strategic objective of delivering excellent services for citizens and taxpayers.� This is an interesting and exciting role covering multiple complex areas of work with transformation opportunities in both the citizen and agent space.��There will be a requirement to influence technical, delivery and product colleagues to enable the delivery of our agreed Service Outcomes.��The role holder needs to lead the team, set direction, unblock challenges, support the needs of colleagues, ensuring governance is robust and that the team are set-up for success.

We are looking for user driven enthusiastic Senior Product Managers to join us and you�ll be responsible for:

leading a theme of product teams within the digital service and be responsible for the theme objectivesdeveloping the product strategy within the service and the lead product managerowning the product roadmapmaking key priority callsmaking evidence-based strategic and tactical product choicescommunicating product success to stakeholdersexplaining controversial choices about your productcoaching less experienced product managerslead the product team(s), and ensure the product is developed to an appropriate level of quality taking into consideration expected lifetime, investment and timeframesensure the team is working towards the appropriate service standards as defined by Central Data and Digital Office (CDDO) and the internal assurance teamsupport the professional development of Product Managers in your area through active coaching and regular 1:1 meetings.

At this level, you:

could line-manage Associate Product Managers and Product Managersare expected to have expert product management skillsmay be involved in elements of programme management activitymay be involved in recruitment process for permanent or contracted Product Management roles.

Person specification

In order to progress to interview, you need to have experience in the following criteria and demonstrate this within your employment history and personal statement:

Setting the direction of the product, rallying the team, owning the vision and roadmap of the product and be that trusted voice�Know how to put users first as part of a commitment to user-centred design and know how to achieve this amongst competing priorities including achieving value for the business�Experience of making a decision in a time pressured situation�Experience of applying influence and challenging the status quo so you can meet your vision�Have experience of mentoring and coaching product people and teams to deliver highly quality products and services�Experience of agile methodology, when to use it and when to not and how you move through the agile lifecycle.�

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.�

Salary Information

Pay for this role is from �69,869 to �77,740.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.
