This is an exciting opportunity to join our IT Operations team, where you will be responsible for leading and developing our Infrastructure Operations Engineers. You will be part of a team that proactively monitor, maintain, and optimise the performance of critical IT infrastructure, enabling seamless operations and minimising downtime for our customers.

Job description

We are looking for a Principal Infrastructure Operations Engineer to join our dynamic and innovative workforce at an exciting and challenging time.�The role holder will need to demonstrate the appetite and commitment to help drive the organisation through a significant transformation programme.���

You will be responsible for leading and directing IT operations specialist teams in monitoring, operating, and supporting technical solutions. You will also assume additional responsibilities in the absence of the Head of IT Operations.�

In addition, you will work closely with the other key stakeholders to develop scripts to automate tasks and streamline operational processes.�

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the technical concepts required for the role and can explain how these fit into the wider technical landscape. Exploring the benefits of cross-government alignment.Responsible for leading and developing a team of Infrastructure Operations Engineering specialists to investigate problems, implement solutions, take preventive measures, and deliver service improvements.Provides direction on which tools or methods are best to use and can apply strategic thinking to provide the best service for the end user.�

This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.��

Therefore, the expectation is that you will spend a minimum of 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace (DVLA). We would encourage you to discuss the working arrangements for this role with us during the recruitment process.�

Person specification

You will have held a leadership role within an infrastructure environment, and will have the following skills and experience:���

Extensive experience working with physical and virtual infrastructure and operating systems such as VMware, Nutanix, Windows, Linux and Unix.Demonstrable knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and monitoring tooling with an understanding of Cyber Security best practices and compliance.Experience in cloud computing services such as Azure and AWS.Proficiency in scripting languages and automation such as Powershell, Bash, Perl and BMC Bladelogic.Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities often using that ability to deal with high impact, complex change requests and test activities.Demonstratable ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues using strong collaboration and communication skills.
