Oxford, United Kingdom Oxford University Press Full time
About Us

We are the world's largest university press. We have both a worldwide reach and a personal understanding of local needs, partnering on the ground to adapt publications and resources to meet the individual needs of communities, societies, and countries. We partner with researchers, educators, and technology partners to stay ahead of the changing ways people around the world are accessing and sharing knowledge. With a presence in more than 50 countries and millions of customers around the world, an idea launched at OUP can have global impact.

About the Role

The Content Solutions Specialist (CSS) ensures that content tools, workflows, and processes at OUP support business needs and are strategically aligned. They support and may be required to lead process change and development, working closely with stakeholders across the divisions, Technology, and Operations to: understand requirements at a detailed level, understand the root causes of content-related problems, execute gap and options analyses, compare strategic priorities, and identify solutions that best meet business and strategic goals. They understand the business' use of content tools, and the technical capabilities of those tools, so as to be able to effectively identify when a tool solution is the most appropriate.

This role involves interrogating as-is business processes and business requirements, to reveal what core capabilities are required, and the best ways to deliver them. This includes weighing tactical against strategic goals (operational, technical), keeping in mind that technical development is not always the most effective solution, suggesting alternative (e.g. process) solutions where valuable, and appreciating where a tactical/interim solution is appropriate over a strategic/long-term solution. The CSS will advise on the appropriate process for delivering identified solutions, and may be responsible for leading and delivering the solution, in which case their responsibilities include project and change management. They will represent Content Transformation & Standards in change initiatives impacting one or more groups or divisions, including preparing the business to adopt new tools and/or ways of working.

The CSS will have awareness of overarching content transformation strategies, as well as technology and business strategies relevant to their project(s). This is likely to include cross-divisional visibility, and awareness of multiple tools and workflows used for multiple types of content, by multiple groups. They will understand the workflows and processes at a detailed level and have a view of the content solutions in place across the business.

Please refer to the enclosed job description for the detailed key accountabilities in this role.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
  • Demonstrable analytical, root cause identification, and problem-solving skills
  • Subject matter expertise (technology, content, operational, and business knowledge)
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, adapt quickly to change, and manage own time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Change management skills, including change impact analysis
  • Knowledge of standard business process concepts (iterative vs waterfall; process life cycle, etc.)
  • Ability to contextualize actions within business and departmental goals and principles
  • High degree of literacy and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with digital content architecture and management (desirable)
  • A knowledge of business analysis and development methodologies, particularly Agile development (desirable)
Benefits

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days' holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect to working patterns, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.

We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.
