We are seeking to recruit a talented and motivated individual to join us as a SEND Advisory Teacher as part of the new SEND Advisory Team at Devon County Council to cover a maternity leave. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to further their professional development and gain experience working across schools providing advice, guidance, support, challenge and high quality training.

The Team promotes the successful inclusion of children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their local, mainstream schools and educational settings. Through the provision of expert advice, guidance and training to schools and settings, the team aims to help raise attainment, improve access, engagement and close the performance gap for CYP with SEND.

We are looking to recruit an experienced and dynamic individual who is able to demonstrate:

A passion and vision for raising outcomes for children and young people A high level of knowledge and understanding of the factors impacting on CYP’s with SEND needs and the current guidance on raising their attainment and improving outcomes A successful track record of improved outcomes for CYP with SEND A high level of training delivery skills to a range of audiences Outstanding communication skills and high levels of emotional intelligence The ability to inspire confidence in others, including in challenging and complex situations Qualified teacher status (QTS) required


The role is mobile and you are required to provide your own vehicle and an enhanced DBS and CBL check is required for this post.

Major Tasks and Activities:

Promote the safeguarding, welfare, successful inclusion and learning opportunities of children and young people with additional needs in mainstream schools and settings Provide advice, guidance, coaching and training for schools on the development of appropriate curricula, and the implementation of relevant, evidence-based pedagogical approaches and strategies for CYP with SEND in the areas of your specialism and expertise. Provide advice, guidance, and training to schools to facilitate supporting the needs of children and young people, which will allow increased capacity in schools & ability to meet need at universal & targeted level. Provide specialist advice, guidance and training on planning and curriculum development. Work closely with school leaders, class teachers, special needs co-ordinators and teaching assistants in schools to develop effective teaching strategies, adaptations, and successful inclusion in relation to individuals and groups of CYP who have additional needs .
