School Support Assistant
Niddrie Mill Primary School

Salary: £23, - £23, (pro rata for part time and sessional)
Hours: 28 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Niddrie Mill Primary School are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and dynamic School Support Assistant who will be committed to supporting our children, families, and school. They will work closely with the School Administrator to provide assistance in the school environment to assist and relieve teaching staff of routine, clerical duties associated with the administration and organisation of resources for learning. To be flexible and assist in undertaking duties that support pupil learning across the school.

Interviews will take place in August/September

The post holder may be expected to undertake any of the following duties:

Word processing for staff throughout the school including: correspondence, reports, minutes, records and returns, purchase orders, class handouts, information bulletins, etc Welcoming parents/carers and visitors and supporting to provide information, answer queries and resolve issues in a solution focused manner Reception and switchboard duties Receiving visitors, taking and relaying messages, answering simple queries and locating staff. Dealing with sensitive and/or confidential queries as first point of contact in school Internal communications – locate members of staff or pupils in the school Deliver messages and take round notices Keep updated class lists, medical records, and various other internal records Make out and update pupil records and prepare returns of admits and leavers Supporting record keeping by assisting with non-professional aspects of school reporting procedures, transfer of information, updating of pupil records for example, letters to parents, personal information, medical records, certificates, record of achievements and report cards, preparing returns of admits and leavers Prepare returns for education department and SOEID Requisitions and Invoices–maintain filing system of requisitions and invoices Organising, ordering and maintaining the stock of materials and distributing resources including cataloguing collections of resources Process invoices and progress outstanding orders Organise and maintain medical records and medication for all pupils School meals/milk money–record lunch and milk money; issue lunch tickets. Maintain and update free meals roll Prepare monthly return of meals supplied and cash banked Assist with administration for outings and excursions, collect and record money and prepare money for banking Stamp outgoing mail and keep post book Issue bus passes and travel tokens Seemis – assist with the operation of the computerised administration package Transferring information, photocopying, and filing Where required, dealing with disposal of confidential waste Preparing areas for pupil work as required e.g. setting up the PSE areas, expressive arts room, classrooms, ICT areas and clearing away equipment Preparing new teaching materials, including content and proof reading Assisting in the running and organisation of the school resource stock Any adhoc tasks given by SLT, Business Manager, and Admin

Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act . The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
