Aylesbury, United Kingdom Buckinghamshire Council Full time

Location: Buckinghamshire, County Wide

Overview

We currently have exciting opportunities within our Family Time Service for workers who are looking to work on a casual basis for a friendly, supportive team and a chance to have a genuine impact on the lives of children and families in Buckinghamshire.

Workers will be expected to work predominately in Aylesbury, High Wycombe, and surrounding areas.

We are interested in people who are available to work with children and families after school and over weekends in the community.

About us

In April 2020 Buckinghamshire Council became the UK’s newest council and the residents of Buckinghamshire will be served by a single, unitary council.

Buckinghamshire is an ambitious, rapidly growing county, and our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ranks as one of the top rural areas to live in the UK. The county has a rich history and heritage and is the birthplace of the international Paralympic movement.

We are looking for motivated, ambitious, and inspiring people to join us on our journey. The Family Time Service is required to support children and young people by providing family time with parents and significant others from whom they are separated whilst they are accommodated with the Local Authority.

The Service provides safe and beneficial family time in a child-centred environment and is committed to promoting children’s rights and the processes necessary to ensure their welfare.

About the role

To supervise family time sessions between children in the care of the Local Authority and their birth relatives.

Responsibilities:

Transport and escort children and young people. Supervise family time sessions between children, young persons, and parents including other family members. To write observational reports of family time sessions to an agreed format and within agreed time scales. To attend and participate in planning meetings or reviews, as required. To follow the departmental safeguarding procedures always. To attend supervision and training courses in relation to the tasks, as required. To develop an adequate knowledge of departmental operational procedures. To attend 75% of team meetings as part of training requirements. To be aware of the Council’s aims, organisational values and behaviours and their impact on this post. To participate in the Council’s performance management processes. To carry out the duties of the post in accordance with the Council’s diversity policy. To carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of you and any other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and to co-operate fully with the Council in health and safety matters.

For a full list of responsibilities please see attached job description.

Mobile:

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.

About you

You will hold a recognised qualification in care work with vulnerable children, young people, and families such as NVQ Level 2.

Have appropriate experience of working with the relevant client group and understanding of the relevant statutory frameworks/requirements and practical knowledge of a range of procedures and interventions to support families.

You will have sensitivity and empathy to build trusting and supportive relationships with families and skills to influence, persuade and motivate them to achieve agreed goals and targets.
