The job itself
We are looking for a motivated practitioner who can think in a solution focused way, have a can-do attitude, and an ability to do work creatively to support children and families as part of our Intensive Family Support Service.
The job
This is a hands-on role working intensively with a small group of families with diverse and complex needs. You will be a key part of the plan in place to make improvements to address key worries such as neglect, poor home conditions, and safety and wellbeing of children, and you will work alongside social workers and other partners to provide an holistic support package.
You will work intensively in family homes and out in the community, visiting your families’ multiple times a week for extended visits to really get to know them and understand what works for them and their wider support network.
You will provide practical support, modelling skills and walking alongside families to make and sustain changes. Some of these families may have had a lot of service support in the past and as a service we are committed to supporting families to make and sustain change, through a family and child centred approach, which is focused on creativity, effective relationships and co-production.
We love to identify and build on strengths within family systems to build resilience and skills, all the while empowering families towards a safe and positive future.
If this sounds like something you are also passionate about, we would love to hear from you.
The person we are looking for.
You will:
Be educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant area e.g. health and social care, social work etc. Be tenacious, committed to providing excellent support to children and their families and have experience of supporting families. Understand how a relational, strengths-based approach can empower families to build and sustain change, and how important a good support network is in achieving this. Be committed to delivering high-quality, outcomes-focused support to children and their families. Be able to work flexibly and quickly adapt to fast changing circumstances. Have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to demonstrate a high level of motivation and be able to work independently, within timescales and often balancing conflicting priorities.Applications from those considering a career in children’s social work are also welcomed as this is a perfect opportunity to gain valuable, frontline experience of working with children, young people and their families in a varied, fast-paced environment alongside the children’s safeguarding team.
Our offer to you
The intensive family support offer is a developing service within Children and Young Peoples Support and Safeguarding Services. Within our service we have three locality-based teams, each led by an experienced Team Manager. We are a diverse team, with a range of professional backgrounds, including but not limited to education, family support, social work, mental health, youth work, youth Justice and housing.
As a service we are on a journey of continued development and engage in formal and informal learning and development opportunities to enhance our knowledge and skills in evidence based and effective practice approaches. We are proud to share good practice and try new approaches and are quickly carving out an excellent reputation for our service.
In addition to our service offer to you, as part of ERYC we also offer a range of staff benefits including flexible working as we know life outside work is just as important.
Our Stronger Together Model of Practice Framework
‘You can, I can, We can’
We have created a bespoke practice model that reflects and connects our vision, our value base and our behaviour as one East Riding of Yorkshire approach to working with children, young people and their families, which is nurtured and grown from within East Riding of Yorkshire CYPSSS and owned by our workforce.
We are committed to Signs of Safety as a practice framework, which within a much wider, model of practice framework, Signs of Safety, Social Pedagogy, Restorative Practice and Systemic Practice that connects practice much more clearly with the East Riding value base, and our overall approach to making and sustaining relationships with children, families and communities.
Without a well embedded model, there is nothing to centre our practice on to ensure that, while the work may be different, all of our teams are grounded in the same values, beliefs, theories and approaches. Having a well-developed practice model helps to create a common language for the service and enables everyone to understand how we go about doing the right things, in the right way and for the right reasons for children and their families.
