About the team

The Finance and Business Support team are responsible for managing and advising on finance, procurement and business support matters across the Agency. The team comprises 12 colleagues, including the Director of Finance, Head of Finance and Senior Finance Manager.

The team are responsible for ensuring the provision of reliable and effective financial systems and internal controls across the Agency. They also ensure the compilation and delivery of effective financial information to support the Agency achieve its business objectives and ensure legal and regulatory compliance.

In addition to providing advice and guidance to colleagues in all matters relating to procurement and financial management they provide Business Support Services to the Agency�s National Office teams based in Saughton House, Edinburgh.

What you will do

This is a significant professional leadership role within SF. You will be a member of the Agency�s Senior Executive Team, working collaboratively with senior colleagues to support the leadership and strategic direction for the organisation, navigating the challenges in public sector finances and offering solutions . A key element of the role will be to work effectively and influentially with finance colleagues in the Scottish Government, with Ministers, senior officials and SpAds, alongside other external agencies and bodies� in relation to Spending Reviews, budget allocations, management and performance.

You will be the senior leader responsible for the work of the Finance and Business Support Team, ensuring colleagues are well led, motivated and appropriately developed and supported.

The Director of Finance will be the leading figure within the Agency to whom the Senior Executive Team (SET), Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) and Audit and Assurance Committee

will rely upon to provide sound advice in relation to financial management �and managing financial risk.

You will be responsible for the good governance of the Agency�s budget � million (�27m capital and � resource) in 2024/2025, which includes grant funding under the Forestry Grant Scheme and be required to analyse complex financial reports and data. Your insights will help inform the Agency�s Corporate Planning process particularly around long term commitments. In addition you will lead on exploring and securing options around income generation activity for the Agency. This is a new area where you will be expected to demonstrate sound business acumen.�

You will be responsible for ensuring the Agency has sound governance systems and processes in place to ensure compliance with the Agency Framework Document and the Scottish Public Finance manual.�

Essential:

Previous experience of successfully leading a finance team at a senior levelPrevious experience of managing change and continuous improvementUnderstanding of Civil Service financial regulationsAdvanced knowledge of financial regulation, systems, process and legislative requirements including HMRC

�Experience of working at a senior level in the Civil Service and being familiar with SG finance procedures

�Essential:

�Full membership of one of the major accountancy professional bodies: ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA
