This is a unique opportunity, as part of Public Protection succession planning, for a motivated and enthusiastic officer to join our Food Standards Team based at Goole or Bridlington (dependant on successful candidate) as a Trainee Food Standards Officer. The Team has blended working arrangements in place working in the office, on site and from home, but it is essential that you are able to respond to reactive complaints which may involve physical inspections of premises in a short timeframe and to work outside of normal working hours on occasion.

Our Food Standards Team is committed to providing support to businesses in the East Riding, whilst robustly tackling illegal trading activities, using the full range of tools and techniques available. Working as part of a busy team you will focus on supporting other Food Standards officers on sampling, animal feeds and food standards inspections across the East Riding and will be involved in other areas of Food Services activity as and when required.

You will either already hold the relevant formal qualification for undertaking food standards inspections, either via a Trading Standards or Environmental Health background or have relevant recent experience in a regulatory enforcement/inspection role with the ability to undertake any necessary qualifications for a period of up to 2 years to gain the knowledge and competency to carry out all duties of the post.

You will be organised, have good time management skills and have the flexibility to work occasional unsocial hours. Above all, you will be able to deal sympathetically with members of the public, and businesses, whilst also being confident in your ability to handle difficult and challenging situations.

You will need to hold a clean driving licence and have your own vehicle available for business use, to carry out inspections across the East Riding area.

A positive 'can do' attitude and the ability to be flexible in your approach will be needed as well as good organisation, IT and communication skills (verbal and written).

Professionalism and the ability to work both with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals are essential.
