The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Non-uniformed Training Instructor based at Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), Perth Training Centre, Perth on a permanent basis. This a part-time opportunity working 21 hours per week.

This is a part time post working 21 hours per week however, applications from individuals seeking to work on a flexible working basis would be considered. The working pattern will be discussed at interview.

The Non-uniformed Instructor will be responsible for the provision of instruction both practical and technical, including associated assessment decisions to uniformed staff, support personnel and external agencies as directed and will assist in the formulation, planning and preparation of current and new training events. As part of a best practice approach, they will be expected to Instruct on a range of technical and specialist activities to a high standard both in person and remotely dependent on the level of Instructional qualifications held.

Pre-planning is an essential aspect of this role along with the ability to adapt to emerging risks sometimes at short notice. The role requires an in-depth knowledge of training within a Fire or similar skills transferrable Emergency service environment and the practical application of this experience.

The post holder will be expected to be self-motivated with the ability to understand and apply initiative in the application of operational practice, procedures and/or policy guidelines related to training; and the impact that these decisions may have throughout SFRS, our external partners and the community.

The Non-uniformed Instructor should be able to work without direct supervision and have the capacity to solve issues as they arise, seeking guidance on non-routine problems from senior colleagues, their Line Manager or other specialists both internally and externally, whilst also providing guidance to others within the training team.

The Post holder will assist as directed in the planning and preparation of new courses and syllabus content, whilst undertaking administrative activities commensurate with the responsibilities of the role and any other duty of a similar nature as directed. The Non-uniformed Instructor will attend and participate in both internal and external training courses as directed/required.

Applicants are required to have experience in the delivery of training, both practical and technical in a Fire or other Emergency service environment, together with a HND or equivalent level 8 qualification in a Fire service or transferrable emergency service discipline.

The successful candidate is required at times to have responsibilities, for the transportation of vehicles, to and from training areas and a full UK driving licence is essential, whilst a CAT C driving licence would also be desirable.

The Non-uniformed Instructor will attend and participate in both internal and external role-related training courses as directed/required and must be prepared to gain/maintain Instructional knowledge and qualifications.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order . The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
