Assistant Cook (Job ref xs 2.5)

Broadmayne First School is looking for an assistant cook to join our small, friendly team.

Duties will include assisting in the management of the kitchen, preparing and serving meals, and overseeing tasks undertaken by the Kitchen Assistant(s). This will be conducted in accordance with food handling and preparation regulations, ensuring safe and proper use of the kitchen/catering equipment and materials provided.

Our school is proud of our 5 star hygiene rating and are looking for someone who will help us keep to this high standard, taking responsibility for the cleanliness and organisation of our kitchen.

Main responsibilities and duties
● 1. To assist in the supervision, direction and training of Kitchen Assistants.
● 2. To assist in generating and processing all food orders, keeping all records and stock books, as required.
● 3. To assist in the preparation and serving of school meals.
● 4. To assist in the supervision of lunch time service
● 5. To maintain all areas of the kitchen and pieces of equipment, to necessary standards of kitchen hygiene
● 6. Wash up, as appropriate.
● 7. To prepare beverages and refreshments, as requested.
● 8. Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people in accordance with the school’s safeguarding and child protection policy.

There may be the possibility of extra hours available, for instance as part of the wrap- around care we offer - this can be discussed at interview.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Keeping Children Safe in Education

The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.

The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.
