This is an exciting opportunity in the Digital and Technology (DaT) team. We are looking for an enthusiastic Principal Infrastructure Engineer (Database) with great leadership / staff� management experience and technical skills with a drive to improve.�
�
You will be responsible for the leadership and staff management of the Database Operations and Development teams and feeding into the strategy of the Companies House database approach. You will be user and service focused ensuring that value is delivered through improvement of database services.�
�
The majority of our Digital workforce are currently working from home or in a hybrid approach and this will also apply to this role. The office base for this role will be our Cardiff Head Office as this is where the majority of the team are based. As decisions are made regarding hybrid working, successful candidates will be expected to attend the office on occasion. �For those candidates who live further afield and not within a commutable distance, we will consider remote working.�This can be discussed in more detail with the line manager.�

Job description

The position is leading and staff management of two database teams in the infrastructure profession and responsible for managing workload, engagement, wellbeing, leading on technical workstreams and contract and licence management. The database teams are responsible for the support and development of Companies House databases across different technologies and platforms. The role will balance leading on delivery at pace whilst maintaining a service availability focus.�
�
You will manage the teams capability through development and recruitment. You will work closely with other Principal Engineers, Enterprise Engineers, Architects and Heads of Profession across the Digital directorate.�

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the leadership and staff management of the Database Operations and Development teams and feeding into the strategy of the Companies House database approach.��

You'll be user and service focused ensuring that value is delivered through support, development and improvement of database services.�

In addition:�

You will lead and staff manage two teams (10 people in total with 4 direct reports) in the design, implementation, administration of database support and development whilst encouraging engagement and wellbeing.�You will be responsible for developing the teams capability to support any transition to new technology through coaching, mentoring and training, shaping the right talent and identifying skills gaps within the teams. �Be part of the Digital team in a time of great change and play an integral part in improving Companies House digital services, infrastructure and continuous delivery approach.�Learn new skills and develop your career working on diverse projects with a focus on continuous improvement.�Work closely with Digital and Data colleagues of all disciplines to design, implement and improve a resilient platform database architecture which can be scaled to accommodate service demand, ensuring appropriate logging, monitoring and alerting are in place.�

Person specification

We're looking for the following experience, which will be assessed at sift and at interview.� Please use the bullet points below when writing your personal statement.��

Experience:

Leadership and management of database administration and/or development teams with a focus on workload management, people engagement and wellbeing.Support or development of database services whilst focussing on performance, reporting and alerting.Automation of manual processes, including database or release deployments.Commercial or contract experience with technology (preferably database)

Technical skills:

Experience of database technologies (preferably Oracle / Mongo)�Unix/Linux �Experience of some of the following is desirable;

AWS, Cloud technologies, Shell scripting. Experience in similar technologies will be considered.�

Alongside your salary of �42,991, Companies House contributes �12,454 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

Please note that the minimum salary does not reflect the 2023/24 pay deal and we are therefore expecting this to increase in the near future.
