The Role and Department
The Student Conduct Office
The Student Conduct Office is part of the Student Support and Wellbeing Directorate within the Colleges and Student Experience Division. This office administers University-level complaints and institutional disciplinary processes resulting from non-academic and behavioural misconduct.
Role Purpose
There are four core areas involved in this role:
Policy development
To develop the university's related policies and procedures in the areas of sexual violence and misconduct.
Student support
To ensure appropriate support is available to any students and staff who disclose experiencing sexual violence and misconduct and/or domestic abuse whether they seek to report the incident to the University/Police or not.
Prevention and education
To develop and deliver training to students and staff in the following areas: 1) consent education, 2) bystander interventions, 3) disclosure response, 4) support of survivors and 5) investigations into misconduct allegations made under the Sexual Violence & Misconduct Policy.
Case management
To manage cases of sexual violence and misconduct reported to the university.

Qualifications/Experience
1. Masters in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
2. Accredited Sexual Violence Liaison Officer (or equivalent experience).
3. Professional practitioner with knowledge and expertise used to contribute to the delivery and development of services, events and activities within the organisation.
4. Experience of implementing policy and procedures and involvement with future changes for a service area.
5. Experience of providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including more senior colleagues.
6. Experience of being able to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships, to influence perceptions of the University.
7. Experience of designing and delivering training in a wide range of media to a range of stakeholders.
8. Experience of adhering to and applying a range of informal and formal procedures to complex cases in a fair and transparent manner.
9. Experience of establishing and developing external partnerships.
10. Experience of multidisciplinary and multiagency work.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
11. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop excellent working relationships both internally and externally.
12. Excellent digital skills including experience in using digital devices and apps including email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, SharePoint and CRM systems would be advantageous.
13. Knowledge and experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines.
14. Ability to contribute to planning at operational level.
15. Highly developed report writing skills, including the ability to specify data capture requirements and interpret management information and experience of writing reports for consideration by senior management.
16. Able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and understanding in the area of sexual violence and misconduct within a higher education environment, and have an understanding of the particular demands associated with managing these issues.
17. The emotional resilience required to deal with difficult and traumatic student and staff issues. The ability to stay calm, focused and professional at all times when responding to difficult situations.
18. The ability to engage with staff at all levels and students in a sensitive and empathetic way whilst maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Desirable Criteria
Registered with a statutory regulatory body for health or social care (for example HCPC, NMC, GMC).Continuing professional development required to maintain professional recognition.

- Work in partnership with colleges, the Counselling & Mental Health Service, Human Resources and other internal and external agencies to ensure appropriate support is available to any students and staff who disclose experiencing sexual violence and misconduct and/or domestic abuse whether they seek to report the incident to the University/Police or not.
Planning and Organisation
- Contribute to the development of operational and strategic plans and service level agreements, preparing reports for University Executive Committee, Audit Committee, Senate and Council as appropriate.
- Continually seek to enhance the services provided to your stakeholders and plan and implement any required improvements.
- Seek feedback from staff, students and other key stakeholders so that the Student Conduct Office is being adapted to meet customer expectations and to plan future requirements.
- Manage and monitor the performance of specified services and make recommendations to relevant Service Heads on how it can be improved.
- Analyse data on the level of service being provided by the Student Conduct Office to recommend areas for future improvement.
- Meet the development needs of your stakeholders including developing and providing training when required, both online and in person.
- Manage budgets and monitor expenditure including the Sexual Violence & Misconduct budget, to ensure cost-effective service delivery.
- Contribute to development of operational service activities to ensure excellence in the stakeholder experience.
