Mission & role of the function

The position holder is responsible for the safe operation of the Quarry Facility to deliver overall production targets and maintain efficient Quarry Plant.

To be flexible across all roles within the quarry environment as required

Responsible for delivering and maintaining all Quarry Health, Safety and Environmental standards on the site.

Key accountabilities
  • To carry out the tasks to operate plant and equipment in a safe manner, in accordance with Hanson UK and site safety procedures and policies and other relevant legislation (SOP's, Risk Assessments etc).
  • To assist with the maintenance of Quarry/Crushing Plant equipment as required
  • To actively participate in Safety Conversations, area inspections and the reporting of Near Hits.
  • Respond to and report any breaches of Health, Safety & environmental standards.
  • Ensure that the raw meal chemistry meets with the sites requirements consistently.
  • To assist and support across other departments as required.
  • To update all areas of knowledge as required to carry out the job with maximum effectiveness and to attend training/development courses as and when required.
  • To liaise with and work flexibly with other members of the team in re-assessing the priorities of the team in the light of changing circumstances.
  • To seek support, assistance or advice from others when appropriate, in meeting these objectives.

Job requirements
  • To be aware of the implications of the actions of yourself, and others on the safety of others and the quality of the product.
  • To ensure appropriate and accurate information is provided and exchanged through the Quarry supervisor, this to include the reporting of Incidents, Near Hits, Accidents and any breaches of Environmental or Quality procedures. To acquaint yourself with such information on commencement of each shift.
  • To have, or be capable of achieving, a thorough understanding of the cement making process, thus giving an appreciation of the possible implications on safety, environment and quality of the actions of yourself and your team.
  • Heavy plant driving and FLT competence & skills are a requirement, and the capability to operate all quarry plant on site.
  • To have experience relevant to a similar industrial scale quarrying process and the potential to progress.

Education/Qualification
  • NVQ Level 2-3 Plant Operations desirable
  • To be educated to GSCE in 3 subjects including one science and maths.
  • To demonstrate a competent level of English language skills, also in literacy and numeracy.
  • Hold a current and valid driving license.
  • To have, be capable to achieve, CITB / NVQ driving certificates for at least 3 pieces of large quarry equipment & FLT Rough Terrain skills
  • IOSH working safely or managing safely certificate desirable
