About the role

Balfour Beatty have a fantastic opportunity for a Jointer to join our amazing Power T&D team . you will be reporting to Regional Jointing Manager / Site Engineer / Project Engineer

You must be fully competent in all aspects of jointing activities associated with the operation, maintenance and installation of XLPe cable systems operating at 132kV and possess a general knowledge of fluid filled cables up to and including 66kV

The location for this role will be Middlesbrough and Leeds

What you'll be doing

Key Accountabilities:

Responsible to the line manager in providing jointing support daily to Projects and Faults and Services contracts, installing, terminating and repairing cables & accessories up to and incl. 132kV.All work to be carried out in accordance with Balfour Beattys basic jointing instruction manual for the Installation, preparation of Cables & Accessories and in addition, those of the cable and cable accessory suppliers/manufacturers.Ensure that all jointing activities are performed in accordance with current BBPT&D safety standardsKey Duties:XLPe duties associated with operation, maintenance and installation of XLPe cables and accessories up to and incl. 132kV.Supervising daily activities and being responsible for the work carried out on site.Working on a wide range of cables and accessories up to and incl. 132kV, including straight joints, trifurcating joints, transition joints, outdoor sealing end in the XLPe cabling range.Completing quality pro forma on time throughout the various stages of the jointing process works on site.Planning and offering support to contract in the organising plant and materials associated with any jointing works to be undertaken.Responsible for the safety and welfare of themselves, the team(s) which they work within and of other personnel and members of the public at all times.Work within the guidelines of the Company Safety Policy, Quality and Security procedures.Reporting of all hazards, accidents, dangerous occurrences and near miss incidents as per the policy.Interacts with:Clients & 3rd PartiesGeneral PublicBBPT&D OperationsBBPT&D ManagementBBPT&D Back OfficeContractorsOperating Environment:Ensure Balfour Beattys Code of Conduct is thoroughly understood, adhered to and promoted across the business to ensure safe, compliant and consistent working practices.To operate in an open- and even-handed manner with all personnel across the business. Skills Required:

Must possess a general level of education incl. Mathematics and EnglishMust be able to follow work instructions in a reliable and proper manner.Certified as a EHV Cable Jointer working on XLPe cables and cable systems up to and including 132kV.Have a thorough understanding of all the specific requirements on working on cables up to and including 132kV i.e: XLPe preparation and the care of components, cable construction, cable straightening and associated heating processes.Familiar in the use of new and old type cable(s) and understand the process and associated techniques.Able to fully understand cable jointing instructions and follow cabling diagramsCapable of basic plumbing/brazing techniques applicable for copper or aluminium.Must be competent and able to work unsupervised.BESC / Persons (NG) accreditation, DNO equivalent be a Competent Person to hold a permitManual handling trainedEmergency First Aid trainedPossession of full UK driving licenceMust have a working knowledge of induced voltage conditions on cable systemsWhy work for us
