Kew House School was established in the conviction that there exists an opportunity for a different kind of independent secondary school in London – academically demanding but with a forward-thinking approach to selection criteria, the flexibility of the curriculum, the shape of the school day, and recognition of creativity and talent. Facilities
We have an excellent IT Operations Team who are always willing to help and work with the Computing Department to meet rapidly changing requirements. The IT infrastructure includes a fibre broadband connection, cloud-based services (SaaS), Office 365, and Frog virtual learning environment. There are two purpose-built rooms, and there is also an iPad trolley available for classrooms. The air-conditioned IT lab has high-end desktop PCs, along with its own server (HP ProLiant ML350), HP switch, and patch panel to create a local VLAN to use for website testing/hosting and networking. The lab is modelled on a Cisco networking learning environment and has a SMART (4K) interactive whiteboard. Applications installed on the network include Python (IDLE), Small Basic, VB.Net, Virtual Box, and Hyper-V. The latest Microsoft Office 365 is also installed, and all teachers can have a free copy which they can download on up to five devices at home. There is a class set of Raspberry Pi computers, a Lego Mindstorms kit, and a number of MicroBot kits.
Curriculum
All pupils in KS3 benefit from a solid grounding in Computing, including knowledge of coding, software packages, e-safety, and problem solving. Our GCSE programme commences in Year 9, with pupils beginning the groundwork for practical programming and developing an increased understanding of computing fundamentals (e.g. systems, hardware, software, and networking). The school's aim is to provide a rich and broad education to all students, whatever their specialism. Whilst we aim to achieve the highest academic results for each student, we do not serve as an examination "factory".
