Portsmouth, Portsmouth, United Kingdom Portsmouth City Council Full time

Anti-Social Behaviour Advisor Apprentice

Fixed Term Contract for the duration of apprenticeship qualification (approximately 24 months)

Full Time 37 hours per week (usual business hours Monday - Friday)

Salary: £23,152 p.a.

Location: Paulsgrove Housing Office (but expected to work from any area housing office)

Apprenticeship provider: Kingdom Academy

Qualification: Level 3 Housing & Property Management with CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Practice

Have you recently finished full time education and wondering what to do next? Or are you unsure about what career path to take? Are you someone who cares about your local community and wants to help improve the lives of all residents?

Portsmouth City Council is excited to offer an opportunity for you to begin your Housing career within the Anti-Social Behaviour Unit. You will improve your future career prospects with the experience and qualifications gained and the possibility of gaining permanent employment with Portsmouth City Council.

Who are we?

This role is based within the Housing, Neighbourhood and Building Services directorate. The Local Authority Housing (LAH) Anti-Social Behaviour Unit provides support to the LAH teams 'to help stop ASB that affects residents or their local area'.

The ASBU does not take cases away from the area housing teams, but instead works with them to obtain the evidence, support the witnesses, and take the appropriate action to resolve antisocial behaviour and breach of tenancy. The purpose of the team is not to de-skill, but to upskill area housing teams by providing practical support and ensure our response to neighbour nuisance and antisocial behaviour is coordinated and timely.

What is the role?

The ASBA apprentice will initially work alongside a specialist Anti-Social Behaviour Advisor. You will focus on early intervention and prevention strategies, and work with customers to resolve matters speedily. You will also have the opportunity of working with colleagues in other areas of Housing that will help you gain the relevant skills and experience to obtain your qualification.

When ready you will be responsible for dealing with cases of neighbour nuisance and antisocial behaviour, preparing witness statements, Injunction/Possession Applications/other legal remedies and attending Court when required. This will all be working alongside Housing Officers. The post requires a high standard of written communication, a willingness to work on your own initiative and the ability to change people's behaviour.

  4. Have awareness of The Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023
  5. Enjoy working with the public and be confident when in challenging situations.
  6. Be confident to work using your own initiative, making decisions and know when to ask for support and guidance.
  7. Can work efficiently and effectively independently or part of a team.
  8. Be able to demonstrate problem solving skills
  9. Can build trust and confidence with your customers as you will be required to provide witness support to residents, complainants and victims.
  10. Have good record keeping skills and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the central role good record keeping plays in being successful.
  11. Be flexible, adaptable and receptive to change. ASB legislation is ever changing, with evolving best practices. The ASB apprentice must adopt a flexible and open-minded approach to their work, always wanting to learn and always wanting to improve their personal response.
  12. Have good communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to communicate at all levels.
