Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom University of Liverpool Full time

We are looking for a Postdoctoral scientist with experience in epidemiological and/or population modelling to join our team. You will develop recommendations for sustainable vector and vector-borne pathogen control in Botswana as part of the BBSRC-funded "Revolutionising ticks and tick-borne pathogen control" by modelling African tick population ecology and tick-borne pathogen transmission dynamics. You will work with Dr Hannah Rose Vineer as part of our Veterinary Parasitology & Ecology research group, comprising academics, PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and technical staff. We focus on delivering high-quality data and mathematical models to inform the response to emerging veterinary parasitic disease threats and the impacts of global change on disease risk worldwide. The research group sits within the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences' (IIVES) Department of Infection Biology & Microbiomes. You will also work closely with colleagues at the Okavango Research Institute and Botswana International University of Science and Technology.

You must be creative, diligent with the capability to plan your own workload, and able to work to the highest standards of scientific rigour. You will be expected to work as part of a team, and also independently once appropriate guidance has been provided.

A PhD in a biological science, computer science, mathematics or statistics, and relevant experience modelling population dynamics or infectious disease dynamics in a programming environment, is required. Experience in vector ecology or vector-borne disease research is advantageous.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.

This post is fixed term until 30th September 2026.
