We are currently seeking a team of Digital Education Student Ambassadors from across all Faculties and levels to help the Digital Education Service evolve the digital offering to staff and students alike.

The importance of digital education continues to increase rapidly and in response to this growth, we have developed the volume and variety of tools, systems and services we offer. The Digital Education Student Ambassadors will be pivotal in making sure digital education is meeting the needs of the student body, developing the right tools and learning solutions when they are needed.

As a Digital Education Student Ambassador, you will work with our staff to help facilitate the technological aspects of multimode classes, ensuring participating students can engage with their remote or in-person peers. Alongside this, we have multiple other projects that Ambassadors can get involved with, including social media takeovers, course development and built course reviews, blog writing and learning to lead induction and support sessions for the equipment within our brand-new digital space, HELIX.

We want our Student Ambassadors to also be amongst the first to know what is happening with digital education at Leeds and be instrumental in testing new ideas, programmes, courses, and technologies before they are launched to the wider university.

This role is available to all undergraduate and taught postgraduate students registered at the University of Leeds student for the academic year 2024/25. The role is varied and flexible for 100 hours across one academic year.

What does the role entail?


• Attend in-person, hands-on multimode/hybrid co-pilot training sessions delivered by Academic staff.

Before each multimode/hybrid class:


• Responsibility for conducting quick in-person technical checks of teaching rooms, including basic sound and camera checks.


• Resolve basic technical issues and report any advanced issues to Leeds's AV or IT teams.


• Closely communicate with teaching staff to establish the pedagogical and technical requirements of hybrid classes on a case-by-case basis.


• Advise on good practice in the use of hybrid to support learning and teaching.

After each hybrid class:


• Providing feedback on effectiveness of technology and student interaction during the session and make recommendations for future sessions.


• Support teaching staff with managing, editing and publishing the recording, where required.

Other ad-hoc responsibilities:

· Providing a student voice on University digital education governance groups, including the Digital Education Committee (DEC), the Digital Education Systems User Group, and Faculty Digital Education Committees

· Supporting the co-creation of fully online and blended learning resources, materials or courses in partnership with professional services staff and academic leads, including providing a student perspective in course design and development

· Providing insight and feedback on communications, courses, tools, and systems, helping us innovate by suggesting improvements and shaping material that will appeal to other students

· Promoting digital education projects and initiatives with the student body in your faculty, such as disseminating information about system updates in response to student feedback

· Producing multi-media communications material such as blogs, video, podcasts, news stories or case studies to profile digital education activities, working with support from the Engagement and Communications team

· Acting as a proactive student voice for raising questions and needs from other students, including advocating for and assisting with the dissemination of surveys to gain student feedback

· Reviewing online materials, resources, or courses from the user perspective, undertaking user testing of learning technologies and websites to provide feedback.

What will you bring to the role?

As a Digital Education Student Ambassador, you will have:

· A desire to proactively engage with academic staff and students in active teaching sessions

· A passion for and interest in digital education

· A desire to advocate for student voice in the use of technology in student education

· Experience engaging with digital education opportunities such as studying in an online or blended learning environment or using technology for learning in on-campus teaching

· The ability to contribute ideas constructively to inform the development of projects

· The ability to work effectively in a team environment by collaborating, supporting and valuing the contribution of colleagues

· Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information, modifying your approach to suit different audiences

· Good organisational skills with the ability to work on competing projects and balance workloads to meet deadlines.

You may also have:

· Experience creating marketing or communications materials such as social media

· Experience participating in University committees or meetings to provide a student voice

· Experience of studying in an online setting, either in a fully online or hybrid context
