Applications are invited for a Consultant Pathologist post within the Department of Cellular Pathology, Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. This is a full time replacement post to join a team of 7 other pathologists within a busy District General Hospital Department. The role includes reporting all aspects of histopathology with the scope to develop an area of special interest. Participation in the hospital autopsy service would be desirable.

NHS Fife serves a population of around 360,000. Cellular Pathology is based within the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, however provides the pathology service for Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline and for GPs throughout Fife. We also provide the pathology service for the Regional Endoscopy Unit that includes patient referrals from NHS Lothian and NHS Forth Valley.

The successful applicant will join a team of mutually supportive, forward thinking and committed Consultant colleagues. The department benefits from high quality biomedical scientist, technical and secretarial support and has full UKAS accreditation to ISO Advanced BMS specimen dissection is established and is an area for expansion. The department is currently deploying a new LIMS system and has approval for the roll out of the Philips digital pathology system. We receive in the region of 20,000 surgical pathology cases and around 1000 diagnostic cytology requests per annum and this continues to increase each year.

We enjoy close links with other Scottish Pathology Departments via the Scottish Cellular Pathology Network. We are involved in training pathology trainees, who rotate to NHS Fife on the NHS Lothian training scheme. There are also departmental links to the University of St. Andrews Medical School.

Applicants are required to be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible for, the Specialist Register within 6 months of the date of interview. In addition, you must hold the FRCPath or equivalent level qualification.
