We are looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Teacher of Science with 2i/c responsibilities to join our dedicated and hardworking team. The ideal candidate will have a Physics specialism, but specialisms in Chemistry or Biology will also be considered.

You will support the Head of Department with the following:

· Leading a team of teachers and students to high levels of success.

· Developing a dynamic and inspiring science provision.

· Having high expectations and aspirations for the students in Science

· Considering the school's 'Ever to Excel' belief and how this can be interpreted within Science.

· Enthusing students through the provision of high-quality teaching and learning.

· Encouraging all students to develop their potential to the full.

• Have the ability to develop a love of the subject in order to maintain high standards.

• Fully understand the curriculum and have the vision required to raise standards further.

Students at St Andrew appreciate being taught well and enjoy their learning. They expect high standards and like to be challenged and stretched in the classroom. They participate well and enjoy taking responsibility across the school. Our last set of published GCSE results in 2019 were very strong, especially in combined science: grade 4 and above was 73% and grade 5 and above was 58%. Progress 8 for Science was 0.54 compared to 0.28 across the whole school. Centre Assessed and Teacher Assessed Grades were also very strong. Our first cohort of A Level students received Centre Assessed Grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in August 2020 and the Sciences are and extremely popular part of our sixth form offer. Our most recent results were also extremely pleasing at GCSE and A Level.

Our GCSE results last year were strong with students in Triple Science averaging half a grade above their targets and all students taking double Science on average hitting their target grades. Similarly, students at A Level produced results of which we were very proud; a significant proportion achieving greater than their target grade. Our alumni scientists comprise of several medics including Oxbridge medics.

We are determined to appoint a candidate who will fit well with our staff body and one that will exude the whole school ethos. The candidate must be an excellent classroom practitioner and be able to demonstrate that s/he can play a leadership role across the school.
