Senior Administrator

Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom University of Birmingham Full time

Fixed Term Contract for up to 2 years.

This is a new, exciting, and varied post for an enthusiastic administrator. You will be working as part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and based at the University of Birmingham. You will be an active member of the Core BRC team, and more specifically supporting the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities, as well as offering some support to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) lead.

The Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre does research into the causes, effects, and treatment of inflammation.

Research is better when it is carried out with the people it benefits – patients and the public. Research is more relevant to the people who take part in it when people with similar lived experience shape the design of new studies and have a say in how and the way that a study is conducted.

Public members are involved in research in many ways including working with researchers to co-develop research ideas or discuss how a study is designed so participants have a good experience, reviewing public-facing information, advising on how research findings are shared with the public, supporting the governance of the BRC organisation, and much more.

You will deliver a range of administrative and support tasks to ensure the smooth running of the PPIE activities across the BRC. Working with the PPIE Manager, you will be involved in the planning and preparation of events, support with the recruitment of new volunteers and support with communications both internally and externally. In addition, you will undertake a wide range of other administrative tasks such as meeting planning and minute taking, co-ordinating and delivering finance tasks, maintaining accurate PPI records and organising a range of documentation and toolkits to be shared across our PPIE Community.

You will be a highly organised and proactive individual who enjoys a fast-paced environment and has very strong attention to detail. You will thrive on multi-tasking, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be skilled in a range of administrative IT packages such as Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Teams. You will enjoy working with a range of people and have skills in relationship building with both staff and diverse members of the local community. You will be patient, kind and compassionate and have a strong awareness of equality and diversity issues.
