Position Summary
This position will lead the division controllership function for MBD within the Specialty Diagnostics Group (SDG) of Thermo Fisher Scientific (division revenues exceeding $2 billion). The controllership function is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of all Microbiology Division (MBD) global entities. The role involves collaboration with a large number of internal groups and stakeholders, day-to-day and on big projects, programmes and commercial deals.

What will you do?
You will lead a team of three direct reports and have responsibilities related to the following areas:

Monthly closing of the MBD accounting ledgers in accordance with the financial close scheduleTechnical accounting research of complex issues to ensure accurate accounting treatmentGuidance and approval on large or complex transactions and revenue deals to ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policiesAccountable for the monthly and quarterly review of key MBD accounting processes, including the profit-in-inventory (PII) calculation, revenue eliminations, and review of bad debt and excess and obsolescence (E&O) reserves.Lead the accounting review of restructuring projects and compliance with GAAP and Corporate Policy including coordination with Technical Accounting and compliance to Approval Authority Matrix.Participate in finance transformation initiatives to improve controllership function for MBD.Serve as an accounting resource for questions or mentorship on accounting or compliance related topics. In addition, serve as the MBD liaison between Divisional Finance, SDG Controller and Technical Accounting, costing team, and othersOversight of the work performed by the local accounting teams supporting MBD including the North America, EMEA, and APAC Accounting Shared Service CentresSupport of the annual financial audit process performed by the external independent auditorsDrive working capital performance and achievement of cash and DSO targets by the MBD AR teams and input into the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for Accounts Receivable and DSOEnsure that MBD accounting functions are being performed as stated in company procedures, financial close schedule, and in accordance with US GAAP and SOXRegular training of divisional finance on corporate policies, accounting policy, accounting newsletter topics, and the Approval Authority MatrixReview work and conduct goal setting, performance evaluations and career development discussions for teamIdentify opportunities for improvement and drive process improvement initiativesDrive consistency in financial controls and process across MBD and interlock into SDG broader process alignmentThis role will work closely with accounting shared service centres, the SDG Controller, the corporate accounting team, and the MBD FP&A groups. This role will be a member of the Accounting Leadership Team (ALT).

How will you get here?You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and a CIMA or ACCA certificationYou have 7+ years of dynamic accounting/finance leadership experience with a combination of public accounting and industry experienceYou have experience leading a diverse global financial month-end close in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining a strong control environmentYou possess a strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP with demonstrated advanced accounting and technical skills including experience with complex revenue arrangementsYou have effective written and oral communication and great relationship-building skillsYou can thrive in a large, matrixed, international organization and have the ability to work cross-functionally with a diverse group of individuals and teamsYou demonstrate success attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining high-potential talentYou have prior experience working with financial software such as SAP, Hyperion Financial Management or Hyperion EnterpriseYou keep an eye toward continuous improvement with a successful track record of optimizing processesYou can prioritise multiple projects and implement them successfullyYou are successful in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrable career progressionSome travel maybe required;
