The Company

Our client operates a leading bakery based in Manchester, boasting over four decades of experience in the industry.

They run a single-site operation with approximately 65 dedicated staff members, operating from 7:30 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.

The Role

The Technical Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that all products manufactured by the Company adhere to strict safety, quality, and legal standards.

This involves overseeing and upholding quality assurance systems, conducting food safety audits, and implementing HACCP guidelines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously enhance and manage the Company's quality management system and HACCP protocols in collaboration with the BRC co-ordinator and administrator.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines to uphold legal manufacturing practices.
  • Provide guidance on hygiene, housekeeping, factory layout, and food handling practices to maintain a safe production environment.
  • Guarantee adherence to customer requirements, industry standards, and the BRC Global Standard for food safety.
  • Offer expertise to external stakeholders on food safety and quality-related matters.
  • Act as the primary contact for third-party auditors, ensuring document availability and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Execute internal audits and enforce compliance with applicable standards.
  • Provide training on food safety and hygiene practices to foster a culture of safety among staff members.
  • Maintain customer and raw material specifications and collaborate with various teams to ensure product quality and compliance.
  • Lead the launch of new products and oversee the artwork approval process.
  • Conduct supplier audits when required.
  • Establish objectives and KPIs based on a consumer-focused business plan, monitoring and ensuring their achievement.
  • Analyze product defects, quality issues, and lead traceability investigations to identify root causes.
  • Develop inspection protocols and SOPs aligned with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
