We are looking for a dynamic and motivated team player to join our Operational Support team as a Support Assistant within the Environmental Health and Trading Standards department.

As part of the wider environmental health team you will undertake activities which assist and support environmental health and trading standard colleagues in carrying out a range of statutory duties across Midlothian Council. This is a front-line post dealing directly with members of the public at all levels.

Essential

  • Strong communicator who can engage with stakeholders internally as well as external partners
  • A positive approach to learning and multitasking
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment
  • Face new and challenging situations where a calm and controlled approach must be applied to the associated problem and an appropriate solution found

Desirable

  • Experience working within local government or public sector

Qualifications

The post holder is expected to demonstrated skills and competencies in a minimum of three of the following areas:

  • Evidence of competency in literacy and numeracy skills such as a minimum of three standard grades level 3 passes or above/national 4 or 5 qualifications or above. Both should include Mathematics and English or equivalent is essential.
  • (SVQ 2 or equivalent is an acceptable alternative).
  • Some practical experience or demonstration of competency in the use of word processing and standard PC software packages is also essential.
  • Demonstrable competency in keyboard and clerical skills are also required; SVQ 2 or equivalent is an acceptable alternative.
  • Experience in a similar office environment, with a working knowledge of modern office equipment is desirable.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and/or Office 365 would be an advantage

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £24,626.87 per annum.
