Bracknell, Bracknell Forest, United Kingdom King's Academy Easthampstead Park Full time

We are seeking to appoint a Second in English to work alongside our Curriculum Leader for English on leading the English curriculum from September 2024. The successful candidate will have strategic responsibility for leading at least one specific key stage (to be agreed upon appointment according to their strengths.) It is important applicants have excellent subject knowledge of English Language and English Literature, and an assured, micro-level understanding of what students need to a.) know and b.) be able to do, to achieve excellent outcomes in both disciplines at GCSE and A-Level.

The English department at KAEP comprises a passionate team of subject specialists, including the Curriculum Leader, a Deputy Headteacher and three Heads of Year. The team is very stable; there has been relatively little staffing change in recent years. English is a popular subject and uptake into our Sixth Form courses in A-Level in Language and A-Level English Literature is healthy. The department benefits from excellent facilities, and all English teachers have their own classrooms.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the Curriculum Leader for English to ensure that there is a clear vision for the English curriculum across KS3, 4 and 5. They will ensure these aims are underpinned with carefully sequenced schemes of work that support students of all abilities to master the discipline and achieve excellent academic outcomes. They will be responsible for ensuring that curriculum planning is consistently of a high quality, clearly defining the essential knowledge that students must grasp to progress. Through resourcing such as workbooks, they will ensure that there is equity in curriculum delivery between teachers and classes.

The successful candidate will be confident in analysing data, and using the conclusions they draw to drive progress. They will have a sharp understanding of what excellent teaching looks like, and previous experience of successfully supporting colleagues with developing their practice.

This is a very exciting time to join us. In November 2022, we joined King's Group Academies (KGA). This has created excellent opportunities for teachers to share ideas and approaches across schools, for the benefit of our students.

At our last OFSTED inspection (November 2021), we were rated as 'Good' in all areas and the inspection team noted that:

"Pupils enjoy coming to their happy and inclusive school. There is a strong ethos of mutual respect, courtesy and care for others."

"Pupils behave well in lessons and around school. They value the educational opportunities that they receive and want to succeed. Knowing their teachers have high expectations and want the very best for them encourages pupils to take pride in their work. Pupils confidently ask for help when they need it."

We aspire to be rated 'Outstanding', driven by a core belief that all of our students deserve nothing but the best possible teaching and support in order to be happy, healthy and successful. We aim to deliver the best quality teaching and learning in a school where staff and students have respect for, and pride in themselves, their school and their community.

If you feel you have the necessary skills, mindset and determination to join us on our journey towards 'outstanding,' we would very much like to hear from you. Visits to the school prior to application are warmly welcomed.

To apply, please complete the application form which you can download from the advert on or contact Rhona Franco, Personnel Officer, at or

Applications may be considered upon receipt so you are encouraged to apply at the earliest possible opportunity.
