Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton, United Kingdom Alstom Full time

Req ID:448978

Appointment Basis: Fixed Term

Location: Wolverhampton

Salary: £16,480

Application Deadline: 9th April 2024

To Apply: go to "Career Opportunities" in ALPS

Alstom is the UK & Ireland's leading supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider. Alstom have built, or are building, just under 40% of the UK mainline train fleet; as well as the entire fleets in service with London Underground, and Dublin Luas.

We provide the widest range of smart solutions in the rail market, from innovative high-speed rolling stock, metros and trams to maintenance, modernisation, infrastructure and signalling.

Employing 6000 people, we design and build trains at Derby, the UK's largest train factory; and operate major sites at Widnes, Crewe, Ilford and Plymouth, and 30 train services depots across the UK and Ireland.

Furthermore, having been selected as part of a joint venture to design, build and maintain the HS2 rolling stock, we have also been shortlisted for the corresponding signalling contract.

Our Signalling and Infrastructure business is underpinned by the winning of framework contracts for Network Rail's, with a potential value of £750 million and the large Bristol Area Signalling Renewals and Enhancement project and the Leeds Station Capacity Upgrade Programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a world leading engineering company where you will be working alongside qualified and experienced staff. We have a well-established and long-term apprenticeship programme through which we offer strong continuous development opportunities, together with significant levels of support, mentoring and coaching.

Joining us means becoming a vital part of a caring, responsible, and innovative company where more than 80,000 people lead the way to greener and smarter mobility, worldwide.

The Opportunity:

This role is based at our Oxley site.

You can join a world leading engineering company where you will work alongside qualified designers at Oxley in Wolverhampton and other Alstom maintenance and engineering facilities.

Over a 3-year program, you will combine academic college studies with real life work-based experience across our organisation. You will be involved in varied engineering projects including covering aspects of design, technical problem solving, maintenance planning, and product reliability growth. You will have the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards a formal qualification.

You will be expected to travel to other maintenance facilities within the UK and potentially within Europe in the course of your duties.

This role will involve operating CAD using Catia version 5, producing CAD 3D models and manufacturing 2D drawings, working with manufacturers of components and liaising with customers to deliver a quality product to cost, ensuring a high level of quality to specific timescales.

You will also get the opportunity to design mechanical installation, be a part of the production of mechanical drawings and models and the investigation and solutions of major technical problems.

Requirements of the role:

  • GCSE or equivalent 5 Subjects including Maths, English & Science (Grade 5 to 9) plus 3 'A' levels of minimum Grade C,C,C (or higher) which can include Engineering, Design & Technolody or 90+ credits in a BTEC Engineering Level 3
  • Strong communication, analytical and IT skills
  • Mechanical and Electrical understanding

As part of the application process, you will need to answer a series of mandatory questions; please allocate a few minutes in going through them and answering, as they are the first shift out step. If you have successfully completed your application, a follow up e-mail will come through in a few days, explaining in detail the next steps of the selection process (online test, online interview, Assessment Centre), together with approximate timelines for each.

We wish you the best of luck for all the steps and look forward to getting to know you
