The department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment is a world-leading centre for economics, geography, business, mathematics, science and humanities education. A core strength of the Department is in the study, support and improvement of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment through multidisciplinary programmes. The Department hosts top-rated initial teacher education programmes, incorporating Secondary PGCE, School Direct and Teach First, innovative Masters programmes and a wide range of continuing professional development courses.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity for an appropriately experienced individual to become part of the mathematics education team, commencing as soon as possible. There are currently well-established and successful Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme (Secondary Mathematics PGCE) and Masters (MA) in Mathematics Educations programme within UCL IOE with over 100 students across both programmes. We are looking for a talented individual to contribute to both the ITE and MA work in the team as well as other research activities.

The postholder will contribute to teaching on courses offered by UCL Institute of Education and to offer specialist support to postgraduate students. Teaching may cover both the MA Mathematics Education and Mathematics Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes. You will contribute to the development of courses and programmes including Mathematics ITE programmes, the MA in Mathematics Education, and to supervise doctoral students. You will use a range of monitoring and evaluation techniques to assess the effectiveness of course/programme delivery and contribute to quality assurance and quality improvement, within the developing frameworks of the Institute and the respective national agencies. In addition, you will be involved in gaining research funding for research projects in mathematics education, and to publish high quality research outputs of national and international sign ificance (commensurate with FTE).

Employment is dependent on successful DBS check.

This post is on a part-time basis (.60 FTE/ 21.90 hours per week).

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have a first degree, or equivalent experience, in an area relevant to mathematics education, a Masters degree in education or a related field, and higher degree in mathematics education or related field (either complete or nearing completion). You will have a Qualified Teacher Status or the equivalent, and successful teaching experience relevant to school mathematics teaching in England. In addition, you will show evidence of a developing set of research and academic publications in a relevant area(s) that either complements and/or supplements the interests of the mathematics education group at UCL and have the ability to communicate research in a clear and engaging way.
