Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time
Senior Service Planner (Flexibly Located Within Scotland)

Scotland Flexible

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

Do you care about the quality of Scotland's water?

At Scottish Water, we are always thinking about how we can continue to deliver the fresh, clean water that Scotland relies on – both now and in the future. We have over 44000km of distribution mains in Scotland and we need to maintain these to ensure the water quality and quantity delivered.

Join us as a Water Senior Service Planner to transform how we deliver high quality water, help us make smarter investment choices that supports a flourishing Scotland.

What you'll do

You'll be part of the Water Network Maintenance Team. Together they play a crucial role in developing maintenance projects and programmes pan Scotland to ensure customers receive high quality drinking water and maximise the life of the network of pipes making up our water distribution assets.

You will take the lead in overseeing our Discolouration Management approach (MA) and continue to develop our processes around how we review risks associated with this challenge. Where risks meet the criteria for action, you will be fundamental in shaping the solutions to ensure customers receive high quality drinking water. We anticipate spending £25m in this MA over the next 3 years and you'll provide the detailed evidence to direct our investment appropriately.

There are some complex projects and problems to tackle. You'll have ownership of multiple projects in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver improved value, efficiency, service excellence and Net Zero.

Within this role you'll also be encouraged to take innovative approaches to address technical challenges across Scotland's the water distribution network. We link with Universities, UKWIR and others to continually improve in this area and you will represent Scottish Water in key meetings.

You'll will be given the autonomy to work creatively and flexibly within a collaborative and supportive team environment and shape the future of some of Scotland's critical national infrastructure.

What you'll need

Not surprisingly, you'll need experience of working in asset/strategic planning or involvement with engineering projects. If that was in the field of water networks, water quality or hydraulics, even better. An understanding of water networks and how they operate is important.

You'll have experience of working on scoping needs to develop projects, with a good understanding of root cause analysis and feasibility. It's not essential but having experience in asset planning or water quality management would be very helpful.

We've got big plans, and don't have time to do one thing at a time, so you'll need to be able to work across multiple projects at different stages in their lifecycle, and often demanding timescales. You'll also have to delegate to and rely on other members of the team to meet your objectives – you should feel comfortable doing this, and ideally have direct experience of it.

Verbal and written communication skills are important. You'll know how to discuss and collaborate on complex technical risks and issues with various stakeholders, particularly our operations teams, and present your ideas and plans with confidence.

Character is important to us. At Scottish Water we look for people who are Bold, Responsible, Inspiring and Caring – and you can expect these characteristics to make an appearance at your interview.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, it's not the only thing that matters. That's why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

The normal working pattern for this role is flexible, but we would typically expect you to be available for the majority of time Monday to Friday 9-5pm. You'll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events, we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? Applications with part time or flexible working requirements will also be considered.

For your future, there's our pension (the 'know-what-you'll-get-when-you-retire' kind), as well as life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 7. If you're new to Scottish Water, you'll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.

The team covers the whole of Scotland, so this role can be based at any of our main office locations, e.g. Fairmilehead, Stepps, Dundee, Perth, Inverness. We operate a hybrid working model, so you can expect to spend some days at home, some days in the office and a few days out on site visits or to collaborate and learn from others.

If you're interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we'll be accepting applications until midnight on the 11th of July 2024.

A few final things worth knowing...

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you're interested in this job, but don't tick all the boxes, apply anyway We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don't rule yourself out

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We're very used to making adjustments, so please don't be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it's important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don't already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Finally (finally), candidates who haven't submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won't need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
