Deputy Head of Legal - Nordics, France and Middle East

Act as deputy for the head of Nordics, France and the Middle East; provide legal advice and act as a trusted legal leader, dealing with commercial contracts, escalations, deal strategy and develop relationships with business, delivery and supporting functions across these geos. Covering deals in general across the regions but also be part of the strategic deals team, providing advice on bid deals across geos outside of the Americas.

You will play a vital and strategic role in this regard and will work closely together with senior management and members of the Strategic Deal Team.

  • You will be an integral part of the Continental Europe (CE) legal team and serve the local businesses both in terms of existing service lines and new growth areas but you might also be involved in the operations of other areas or jurisdictions, such as UKI, Nordics, Middle East or CE.
  • You will be expected to develop and maintain your relationships with the business leaders in your local geos and other jurisdictions. You will be required to give advice across a number of jurisdictions and depending on the needs of the business, you may be required to travel to other locations in the course of your duties, especially in connection with negotiations of large deals.
  • Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting, negotiating and interpreting a wide variety of commercial issues and transactions, varying in nature, complexity and value, from a simple NDA or a consultancy contract to a multi-million dollar technology or business outsourcing agreement.
  • With respect to deals within your geos of responsibility, you will be responsible for the legal review and negotiation of commercial agreements with clients in a broad range of industries and work on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages, right through to final negotiation, escalation to senior Cognizant leadership and dealing with any post signature issues.
  • Other responsibilities include assisting with disputes, corporate transactions and integration activities and promoting strong corporate governance and risk mitigation practices, as well as advising on ad-hoc issues that arise on a daily basis and liaising as necessary with other members of the legal team and other corporate functions.

Requirements:

  • Whilst significant experience with negotiating large IT and Outsourcing contracts as well as commercial law experience is essential to this role, you must also have a commercial mindset and able to communicate, draft and negotiate commercial contracts in English.
  • Your experience in working on IT contracts, advising on GDPR and IP related issues must be accompanied by the ability to balance legal risks with commercial and operational needs of the business.
  • You should be able to demonstrate strong, effective and impactful communication skills and be able to communicate with people at all levels and backgrounds, being able to multitask with rapidly changing priorities in a dynamic working environment and have strong organisational skills.
