Micheldever, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

Summary

Are you an experienced conservator who'd like the chance to work in some of the National Trust's finest historic houses? We're looking for a Conservator to join us in the London & South East region, to provide support and expertise in all aspects of remedial and preventive conservation of collections and interiors.

You'll apply appropriate technical and consultancy skills to enable properties to achieve sustainable standards of conservation, while supporting a range of projects.

What it's like to work here

You'll be part of the Trust's internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including curators, fundraisers, building surveyors and project managers, you'll be working with others to help make things happen.

As this role covers the London & South East region, particularly supporting properties in Hampshire, Surrey and the Isle of Wight, your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust consultancy office to your home. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We'll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40-60% of your working week.

What you'll be doing

You'll be using your conservation expertise to help and support Trust places, working closely with colleagues to create high-quality experiences for visitors.

You'll champion the work of the Trust in preventive and remedial conservation, developing and adding to remedial preventive conservation research and analysis. Innovative in your approach, you'll be protecting collections of art, objects, furniture and precious personal items from environmental threats and finding ways to work more sustainably.

You'll occasionally procure and supervise external services and expertise to help with meeting the targets of property business plans and conservation plans.

You'll develop good working relationships with all kinds of partners, working collaboratively and sharing your expertise.

Please also read the full role profile and additional information, attached to this advert.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you're:

  • an experienced Icon (Institute of Conservation)-accredited conservator
  • able to apply creative thinking, problem-solving and people-focused practice to conservation
  • confident with document management systems and processes to monitor Programmes
  • experienced in researching, commissioning and brokering remedial conservation work
  • a skilled communicator, who can build strong relationships within diverse teams, both internally and externally
  • a flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks, and confident in using your expertise to influence decisions
  • proactive and organised, with experience of managing projects and a talent for multi-tasking and getting things done, strongly focused on detail, quality, cost and time
  • a leader for inclusion, who finds ways to create an inclusive culture.
