Editor - The Letters Page (part-time, fixed-term)
Location University Park
Do you have experience of contemporary literary journals, have proof-reading, copy-editing and editorial skills and have experience, or an interest, in working with student volunteers? We are looking to appoint a part time Editor to work with the Chief Editor of The Letters Page based in the School of English.
You will be an excellent communicator, with strong editorial skills to guide student volunteers through the editing, print design and production tasks required to support the publication of The Letters Page in the School of English. You will have strong organisational and time management skills and be able to work independently and on your own initiative.
You will have a degree (or equivalent) in English, Creative Writing or other relevant area. A Masters degree or demonstrable interest in Creative Writing and/or contemporary literature is desirable.
You would join us on a fixed-term, part time contract to work 6 hours per week during University teaching weeks only from 23rd September 2024 to 30th June 2025. This is a fractional contract, which means that you would work for 23 weeks across the academic year and will be paid monthly, to include a pro-rata holiday entitlement.
We recognise that what helps us succeed is the different ideas and experiences of colleagues across our School, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. Together, we are welcoming, inspiring and supportive of everyone. We believe in diverse academic and research teams that will provide the best opportunities to be innovative and forward thinking. We are therefore seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic scholars. We are currently working to decolonise our teaching curriculum and understand that having a mix of opinions, broad perspectives, lived experiences and different ways of solving problems enhances our day-to-day work and enriches our academic community.
Mentoring towards further career progression will be offered throughout the period of the post.
Further information about our School, The Letters Page and working here.
We are committed to a Strategic Delivery Plan for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and we warmly welcome applications from under-represented groups, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation, caring responsibilities, socio-economic background and any temporary impairment or other irrelevant distinction.
