Job summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in Human Computer Interaction to work on a research project investigating the use of AI to help in early detection of cancer in general practice.

The successful candidate will join the NIHR Project Team, consisting of researchers from Design Engineering, Surgery and Cancer, Applied Mathematics and Computing at Imperial. The research will be in collaboration with NHS Sussex and SOAP Health.

The candidate will design and perform studies to 1) validate the accuracy of the AI in capturing the patient history; 2) examine the patient experience using the virtual-human assistant, which will include interviews with patients and healthcare professionals for feasibility and acceptability evaluation; and 3) engage patients and healthcare professionals in a co-design process to propose adaptations and design that will address their needs.

Essential (E) and desirable (D) requirements:

  • A PhD in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Behavioural Science or closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience. (E)
  • Experience in participatory design methods (e.g., interviews, surveys). (E)
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods. (E)
  • Experience in designing and co-designing interventions. (E)
  • Experience in engaging with health practices and patients. (D)
  • Experience working in the Healthcare domain. (E)
