Brentford, Greater London, United Kingdom Kew House School Full time

Kew House School was established in the conviction that there exists an opportunity for a different kind of independent secondary school in London – academically demanding but with a forward-thinking approach to selection criteria, the flexibility of the curriculum, the shape of the school day, and recognition of creativity and talent. A character-selective school, we pride ourselves on the support and care we extend to our 600 pupils whilst striving to add value to their success in all fields of academia, sport, and creativity. Kew House has successfully grown over ten years since its foundation and was recently awarded the ISI "Excellent" grading.

Curriculum

Students will study Art across Years 7 and 8 as part of the creative subject carousel, refining their application and understanding of the subject through three regularly updated schemes of work. Students who take the subject at GCSE will begin in Year 9 with a skills-building year that introduces them to advanced technical mastery, as well as purposeful experimentation and critical thinking. Coursework is amassed across Year 10 with a sustained sculptural project, and Year 11 is launched with a mock-exam unit, followed by the externally set assignment.

At A level, students explore digital platforms and sketchbooks across two schemes of work and begin their personal study unit in the latter part of Year 12. Their exam unit is completed in Year 13, and the course is concluded with an ambitious and professionally presented showcase of student work.

Extra-Curricular

The Art department is central to the school's extra-curricular provision, with a wide range of clubs, trips, and cross-curricular programmes. We provide after-school support at GCSE and A Level and often have visiting artists and designers work with specific year groups. Our involvement with external competitions and agencies is extraordinarily successful, as is our ability to place students into their first-choice art schools beyond their A level studies.
