About Our Client

For more than 100 years, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has been quietly working behind the scenes to change both legislation and attitudes surrounding accidents, from the compulsory wearing of seatbelts and the campaign to stop drink driving, to the Cycling Proficiency Test and to the more recent ban on handheld mobile phones behind the wheel. As a registered charity and through campaigning, carrying out research, influencing legislation, informing and educating, auditing and providing expert consultancy to businesses, they have maintained our position as the leading advocates for the wellbeing of people everywhere.

RoSPA has an annual turnover of circa £9m per year and employs over 90 staff, working in England, Scotland, Wales and other countries. The charity enjoys multiple accreditations including recognition by Ofqual as an Awarding Body and ISO9001 by the British Standards Institution. As well as delivering courses that lead to its own qualifications, RoSPA is an accredited training provider for NEBOSH and IOSH.

Job Description

RoSPA is now seeking to recruit an independent Trustee (Policy) to the Board. This role is crucial as they embark on the next stage of their journey to strengthen their policy and campaigns function following the appointment of a new CEO.

We are looking for candidates to:

Act as a critical friend to the board, providing support, education, and guidance.Challenge and push for rigorous scrutiny and meaningful implementation of policy changes.Up-skill the board, integrating new and emerging thinking in policy and campaigns. In addition, you will be expected to contribute actively to the broad range of RoSPA interests in safety matters across road, leisure, water and the home. The Successful Applicant Proven track record in a senior role within a campaigning charity, NGO, or similar organisation.Knowledge and understanding of campaign strategy and impact assessment.Understanding of eye-catching and effective campaigning techniques.Knowledge and understanding of the development of political strategy and robust policy recommendations.Experience of managing either a charitable or campaigning organisations.Robust understanding of the party political process and systems.Understanding of Government process and systems.No previous board experience is necessary. This is a voluntary and unpaid role.

The minimum requirement will be 5 days, This will be split up as follows

Four full-day meetings annually (two in London, one in Birmingham, one hybrid).A strategy day Should you be able to, you may also wish to be involved in additional sub-committee meetings.
